In Defense of Kim Kardashian

Saturday, April 13, 2013

A weird topic for a blog, I know. But if you've flipped past an entertainment show, or walked by a magazine rack lately, I'm sure you've seen her, um, extra-curvy pregnant body. And on top of the usual comments about being fat, there are also close-up photos of her clothes bunching around her butt, and of food being shoved in her mouth apparently non-stop. To me, this is a new low for entertainment "news". The woman is pregnant! Even for us "normal" women, being pregnant usually gives permission to eat whatever we want. Kim Kardashian seems to come from a pretty screwed up family (understatement of the century). She's probably never had permission to eat in her whole life, so of course the pounds are going to pack on quickly once she actually starts eating. I know it's not healthy for mom or baby when mom gains too much weight, but it's probably better than having mom try to maintain her restrictive diet throughout pregnancy.

It's not just about feeling sorry for Kim. It's also about the body image messages magazines are always sending to women. Now, we are not even allowed to eat and be "fat" when we are pregnant? Give me a break!

I totally agree with you, I can't stand that media makes fun of not only overweight women but skinny ones too. Pointing out peoples physical imperfections on the first pages of the magazines. I really feel sorry , I can't even imagine how I would feel if my cellulite was photographed and exposed in every store.
