Tomorrow the 30 Day fast begins

I've been really excited today about beginning this new phase in my life. I have spent the week incorporating more vegetables, fruits and less proteins in my diet. I live fairly low carb anyway, so that wasn't really an issue for me. I don't drink caffeine, so I'm not worried about that, but I have been browsing the supermarket for a variety of herbal teas to try. I've also committed to getting out of the house everyday. I work from home, and after battling anxiety issues for the past six months, I have adopted a very indoor lifestyle. The dog likes the walks, and it's good for me too.

I found a local organic farm that delivers vegetables and fruits weekly for juicing, they have a great website with a variety of specific juicing boxes ranging from fasting boxes for immunity boost, children's juice box, and seasonal juice boxes. If anyone is in BC the website is www.spud.ca. I plan on supplementing these boxes with veggies from my local supermarket, or possibly Costco.. I'm going to check it out tomorrow morning.

The only worry that I have about the next couple weeks is the brain fog that I have experienced from dieting in the past. My immediate worry is that because i do a lot of writing, not being able to concentrate will really hinder my ability to reach deadlines. If anyone experienced this, could you let me know how long it lasted? I would be really grateful to know, so I can anticipate how long I will be struggling.

    Good luck with it, I am currently on day 36 and It has gone pretty much smoothly so far. I like you was scared to commit to 60 days so I set 3 day increments... So when i started i did one day, then said - since i did one lets do 3, then 7 then 10 etc... The first 3 days I had flu like symptoms and on day 5 everything looked clearer and brighter. On the 6th day I went to sleep and when I woke up on the 7th day I thought to myself: Oh wow this is what sleep really is like! Any amount of time you do it for is a wonderful gift for your body. I count the weight loss as a bonus!

    I used to fast occasionally when I was younger..and not as I now understand fasting. I can no longer fast my old way...my body rebels too much. However, when I first started, there was no 'brain fog'..in fact, clearer, sharper. But now that I am older, there are certain nutrients and sugars that I must have..but with proper juicing from what I've heard, that shouldn't be a problem. I am unfamiliar with juicing but perhaps you might inquire of Matasmorena as she juices..there are a few others on here that do....My old way of fasting was just strictly liquids..broths, non carbonated beverages (juices) and occasionally a milkshake for lunch..I was young and stupid and didn't know that that's not how you do that.....(but once lost 25 lbs in 10 days)

    At 19, I'd had a tonsillectomy-very tender throat, and was off solid food for a month and a half....not good for getting through college....LOL

    I love what you are attempting to do & might consider joining you. Wishing you all the strength and determination to get you through the rough spots, but remember - what you are about to undertake is very worthwhile and worth the fight. To your health!!!

    I would love to do 60, but I'm concerned that if I set that goal I might have to end in the middle because I'm having surgery. My plan is to get through the 30, see how I'm feeling and decide if I want to keep going or not. If I feel good, I will continue week by week. Until I have a surgery date. I don't think it's a good idea to be dieting right before or during recovery-I will still include juice in my diet, but I want the most efficient recovery I can have emoticon

    Be positive. I am finishing my 4th day and I haven't had any more fog than normal. I think the people who do have problems are the ones who are high caffeine drinkers which you say are you are not. Who knows you may love it and continue with me for 60. emoticon Just kidding, you do the 30. It is a good amount of time.

    Hi Hopeful :)

    The only side effects I had last time were headaches and an intolerance to cold. I'm hoping this time will be similar, I'm drinking fresh made juice this time-last time I drank a lot of store bought/juice stand juices that were full of sugar, which I think made the cravings and headaches worse.

    Are you thinking of doing a juice fast? I believe once you get past the first week, all the irritating side effects calm down.

    It's been awhile since I've attempted this. How's yours going? Day 2 & 3 were "panic attacks" for me...briefly but they were weird. LOL
