Zero Self Control

Tuesday, April 09, 2013

This past weekend my dad was complaining about me never cooking so he threw a mix for gluten free corn bread at me. However, has he ate any? NOOOOO! Who has been eating them? MEEEEE......I have a weakness for carbs......Aside from the whole corn bread issue. Between the time i get home from student teaching which is about 4pm and eating dinner 6pm i tend to eat my weight in food. What can i do instead of shoveling my face with carbs? Ive tried working out. However, i have no ambition what i get home and usually wait until 7pm to work out.

For the loaf of bread issue...toss it out. If you're like me - this will be a tough one though. But think about it, if you're the only one eating it, who's going to care that it's gone?

You may be craving the carbs but you need to concentrate on eating fibre and protein. It's hard at first but as you learn to adapt, it gets easier. The fibre (don't aim for carb based fibre - go for legumes, fruits and veggies - lower in calories and packed in vitamins and nutrients you need) will keep you fuller longer and the protein helps keep the muscle mass you have fueled up right so that it's burning the calories more efficiently.

If you're anything at all like me, one slip up for the day and I feel like I messed up and then I start getting into stuff I shouldn't. I've gotten a lot better at this by changing the way I think about making mistakes. My mantra is - It's not about perfect, it's about being better than I was yesterday. I am always going to have moments of weakness - that's a part of who I am. BUT I have the choice to keep them as moments or I can create them into hours, or days, it's my choice. Not only do I control how long it lasts, but also how big of a moment of weakness it is. If I cave and eat my fav stuff - I don't have to eat the whole thing!! I can take a small piece and then choose to walk away from it, or give it away, or throw it out.

Not sure if any of this will help you but it took me years to figure this stuff and most days it works for me. But everyone is different and what works for some doesn't for others. Then again...you don't know til you try =]

    Good luck!!
