How am i doing

Hi everyone,

A few people have been asking how I am doing and how is the healing for my Achilles tendon going. I am doing okay it hard being stuck at home all the time. I did join the chair exercise team and I was doing those for awhile but then I fell off the wagon and haven't done them in awhile. I am frustrated with myself. I know what I have to do but I don't have the motivation to do it. I have been ordering a lot of take out lately to. I feel so discouraged right now. I have gained a lot of weight over the past two months or so. I wanted to thank those of you that have been asking how I am doing your support means a lot to me.

Ps. My Achilles tendon is healing it's slow but at least I am making progress.

    That is so good to hear! Try your best to keep up with your goals - don't' beat yourself up if you don't, but use it as a way to measure progress and a way to motivate yourself. If you miss one day - just make your goal to do it the next day and the next. Never give up!

    Thank you everyone for your support. Sumay you are right I need to make smaller goals for myself. So here is my first goal. I will drink 10 glass of water a day. You are right I do need support. It's hard for me to reach out when I feel depressed and discouraged. When I feel like that I just want to isolate and hide under the covers. I just thought of anther goal I will post how I am doing every day on sparkpeople. I need to realize that I deserve support just like everyone else. Wishing everyone a great week.

    I can't improve on the wonderful, thoughtful creative advice others have offered here, especially Sumay's! I really feel for how trying it must be to wait for the healing of that Achilles tendon, having once broken my ankle and waited through all of that. When you're immobile, it's very hard to just keep the weight off, or so my physical therapist told me. I managed to, but it was ROUGH! The best thing you can do is keep seeking diversions from food and eating wherever possible - a good book, something good on TV or Netflix...something that completely engages you so that your thoughts don't wander into the kitchen. I don't know why it was, but my appetite seemed much greater while I was healing from that break.

    Just know that your tendon will heal and that this very difficult situation will evaporate when it does. emoticon

    I'm so sorry to hear your discouragement. We certainly all feel it for one reason or another from time to time. I too have been very discouraged with myself lately, and have found the words of my fellow Sparkers helpful in my times of need. I hope just knowing people are thinking of you and sending caring thoughts to you provides some level of encouragement. In the words of my Mom, this too will pass. Take good care of yourself. Things will fall back into place when you are ready.

    Don't be discouraged - it is so easy to look at the less bright side of things when you are not meeting your goals - that is normal. What you need to do is MAKE GOALS - decide what you want to achieve. They can be big ones. Then - break those down into smaller goals. For me, I want to get down to 150. However, I am setting a more realistic goal of 170 now - and will readjust when I reach that goal. After that - I assume - I will make goals of continuing to be active - to fit in more strength training, etc. Just REMEMBER to break it down one small step at a time to help you realize – YOU CAN DO IT!

    Next, make sure you track those goals. If you want to eat less takeout, then set a goal of 2 times a week – or 1. For me, it is helpful to decide ok – I’m going to treat myself on Fridays and set Friday as that day – and this way I am not tempted (or tempted less) during the week. If you want to work out 3 times a week – plan what days to make it easier to make sure you fit it in. Then – if you miss on Monday and it is one of your workout days – you know YOU NEED TO fit it in on Tuesday, for example, since you missed Monday.

    I know you are still healing – but keep up with the seated workouts. Getting moving is the most important thing – and I am learning this myself right now.

    The most important advice I can give you is don’t be quiet! We all need support in this – you are not alone. However, if you only pop up once in a while – you won’t get the support you really need on a daily or weekly basis (whatever you can afford). Post to let us know how your day is going – post to tell us what new exercise you are trying – post to tell us what you are doing to meet your goals. You need to feel successful – and you need a cheering section when you do a great job. We all do – it truly helps in actually meeting your goals. You don’t have to turn your posts into diary entries or anything – you can even just log: kept away from fast food today – walked for 20 minutes – and that’s it. It is your blog to choose what you do with it and how much you share. However – you will find that being here – being truly present – will make a huge amount of difference in how much you believe in yourself and in how much you can achieve. You do not have to do it alone – and there are people who are just like you who are struggling too – and we want to share in your struggle and help you succeed.

    I’m sure there are a lot of struggles you are going through – and there are other goals that will help you achieve success as well – but for right now . . . the most important is:

    Keep Moving
    Don’t Give Up (on your dreams – or on yourself)
    Set your Goals
    Be Present (you need the support and we are here to help)

    There is a lot that we can learn from each other – and there will be times when you will say something that helps someone else along on their journey. Let’s just take it one day at a time – together – we can do this.
