Mornings & Me
Saturday, April 06, 2013
Usually I hate, loathe, despise mornings. I wake up tired and would love nothing more than to go back to sleep. But something weird (good?) has been happening this week. I've been waking up around 7:00 a.m. most days feeling refreshed and happy! Including today (Saturday?!). I'm not sure what the exact reason is, but I've got a few guesses. I love the "SparkStreaks," and I think I've been motivated to have better bedtime and waking habits by the Sleep Better Challenge. I've also been on anti-depressants for maybe a month now. So I think it's possible that rather than not being a morning person, perhaps I've been depressed for a long, long time. Or maybe it's just a freaky week. Either way, I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
This morning I let Stephen sleep in late, so I took Toby out after I got up this morning. Usually I just take her into the grass and take her right back inside, but since I've been feeling so grand in the mornings, I decided to get a little walking in. The weather is divine, and there is something ultra peaceful about a Saturday morning when most other people are asleep. We were walking around the back of the complex (which backs up to some woods), when suddenly I stopped in my tracks. A deer! In the winter when the trees are bare, I love looking into the woods looking for deer, but so far all I've seen are birds and squirrels. It was a big one, about halfway back into the woods. Just as I would think I was seeing things, it would move just a tad. Or so I thought. I decided to move a bit to get a different view to see if my eyes were playing tricks on me. Ugh! Tricked by a rock face! Just as I was starting to skulk away, the rock face leaps away and joins two other deer that I hadn't noticed at all. High five to those deer for awesome camouflage skills! It was kind of magical.
