Recalibrating Default Settings

Thursday, April 04, 2013

I was talking with my work coach today about how I zone out when I'm home alone after working 12 hour days and being totally focused, upbeat and sociable ... I acknowledged that I tend to be really lethargic when I'm alone. I was excited to tell her that I had found a kayaking club to join and get more exercise while learning how to master something that I thoroughly enjoy. I was hoping that that would help me be less lethargic.

Coach responded with ... With all that you do, you need to be able to relax peacefully.

Well blow me down with a feather! That was it! I had never linked relaxed with peacefully ... When I relaxed I associated it with having permission to not be in control. So I would binge when I relaxed and as a result feel sore and lethargic. That was my default setting for unwinding ... And it was occurring everyday!

SO ... Now I have a NEW default setting ... And it is whenever i have the chance to relax, i will relax peacefully. Overeating does not bring me peace and is therefore no longer part of my default setting.
