Above the Fog, Leaving the World Below

Sunday, March 31, 2013

Out on the trail the world makes sense.
Above the fog, leaving the world below:

I've done some spectacular hikes throughout March.
Here are some pics of the ones that bring back happy memories...

The most challenging was my 21-mile hike 3 weeks ago.
Stats for that: 5500 vertical feet
Fitbit stats for the day: 47263 steps / 615 floors
14 miles in at the summit looking down:

Then there was a snow hike:

Then, of course, the hike with my kids:

And yesterday an upside down hike, where we started on top of the mountain, did the downhill first, did some creek hopping, looped around and finished by doing a quite steep uphill.
They call this portion of the uphill the Rim Trail, and it gets a bit tricky at times.
What trail?

Another Rim Trail shot:

Overall March was a tough sad month and I have to say that hiking played a big part of getting me through.

April is my birthday month and I'm determined to make it a good one!!

    Yikes-where is that trail?

Thanks for sharing your hikes with us. I especially like it while I'm stuck healing my foot from surgery and dreaming of hiking. LOL!

Great photos! I'm in awe of your 21 mile hike in 1 day. My fitbit still has to learn to get me to take that many steps in a day... emoticon

Beautiful photos - as usual! I'd love the hiking - but not on those slopes that look like a death march instead.

There is something about nature that does take you both into yourself and out above yourself. It can give you a better perspective on life - or just wear you out into acceptance.

Happy Easter! Keep those blogs and hikes happening. Hmmm. I'm feeling a bit like a voyeur.... emoticon

April is a great month for birthdays in my family. We celebrate on the 4th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 15th, 17th, 18th, and 24th. There is also a due date on the 20 or 21st this year, so we'll add another one to the list. Hope yours is a great one!

Thank you for always taking the time to share your hikes with us. I love the views and since I live in the greater Alabama area where a hill is more like a mountain your sharing yours is so awesome. April is a month of rebirth. So lets do it. You pick yourself back up and keep moving forward and i'll just pick myself up and get moving forward. Happy Easter.

What a beautiful blog! Hiking is really a metaphor for life, isn't it? Ups, downs, beauty, hard places, scary places, beautiful places.

I'm so glad you had hiking to help you get over a tough spot. I am just in AWE of the beautiful places you hike. If we ever plan a trip to CA I'm going to be in contact with you to get a list of your favorite hikes.

Hope next month is one of happiness, healing, and (of course!) hiking!

Have to edit because I forgot to say how GORGEOUS your pictures are. Mine never seem to capture the beauty of the places we hike. I think it could be because I have to reduce the size of the pictures. (Or maybe it's just your hikes have more beautiful scenery!) Do you have any secrets to share?
