Why I Am Doing This

Thursday, March 28, 2013

SparkCoach suggested blogging about my real reasons for my fitness and weight loss goals. This is pretty easy for me. I have been up and down in my weight so many times. This last time I had gotten in such bad physical shape that I didn't even feel like bending over to tie my shoes. During the winter especially my body ached all over and I got tired of not fitting well in the seats at concerts and stuff. I have family members and friends who can barely walk because of their weight. I am getting to an age where it is going to just get harder and harder to maintain good health and a healthy weight. I don't want to be one of those people who can't get around or who is pain all of the time because of weight related health issues. I want to be able to enjoy life and do the things that I enjoy, such as hiking, without huffing and puffing. I want to be able to bend over to clean the cats' litter boxes and to be able to go up the stairs at work without wondering if I can breath! Finally I reached a point where I said, "Let's Do This!" I put my plan in motion and I had a little help because of the surgery that I had on my stomach and esophagus, and here I am, on my way to better health! It is awesome. I feel better and look better and I can do these things again! I still have a long way to go to get to my goal weight, and then I will have a lifetime ahead of me in maintenance, but I am on my way!

You are so right- exercise and eating right are the keys to staying young! I also don't want to wind up like some of the people in my life in terms of their poor health. Some things can't be avoided, but we have more control of what activity we do and what we eat.

Yes - health is #1 for me this time around. I gain most of my weight in my stomach. I'm sure that's bad for the old back and hard on the vital organs. My grandmother and mother both have had knee problems and I know weight is a huge factor with knees. My mom, dad and sister have had cancer and fat is linked with increasing your chance of cancer. My mom, dad, sister and me all have hbp and high cholesterol controlled by medications. These should be huge motivators for me. Maintaining a healthy weight is serious business.
