Scale Fluctuations

So, I usually handle scale fluctuations just fine. That's why I weigh in every day. Recently I had a hard one.

Hopped on the scale several days ago to see that I had lost 50 lbs. Needless to say, that was awesome!! I then went over on calories two days in a row. Followed that up with over doing it this weekend. Saturday I helped a friend put a hardwood floor in a large area of his home after running 12 miles. Anyway, if I over do it, I have to eat extra or it takes me a LONG time to recover. Short version, I was up 4 lbs on the scale in as many days.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm VERY pleased with my progress in the last year. I have, or had, lost 50 lbs since January of last year!!! What more can I say, well... I ran 12 miles before working on his floor for 10 hours! A year ago, I couldn't have done either. I'm running much farther and faster. Very happy with my pace. I'm biking faster, and working up the miles. I'm pleased with all the progress made in swimming in the last year. So, not complaining when I bring up the point of the blog.

It was VERY discouraging to see the 50 lbs lost "go away". I know, most of it is water. I know I'll be back down VERY soon. I think most people deal with more fluctuation from the scale. I just had to get it out there so I could move on with all the good things happening.

I promise a strictly positive blog when I've achieved my 50 pound milestone again!!

    It could have been alot of factors, like muscle building, that could have played a part in this. I avoid the scale as much as possible. I don't always like what it tells me.

    Congratulations on your HUGE accomplishment of losing 50 lbs!

    So understandable about your discouragement of the gain ~ I think after losing 50lbs I will still be scared of it all coming back ~ because although I've never lost that much (yet), I have lost and gained, and lost and gained enough times to have that very real fear!

    Way to focus on the positive ~ wow a 12 mile run! There's have to be a bear or something after me! And putting in a floor is no easy task! Like you said, not too long ago, you couldn't have done that!
