Day 8 - Committing

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Yesterday my Dietbet started. For those who don't know, it's a competition to lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks. You put up real money into the pot and whomever meets the goal splits the pot. So if you meet your goal, you're guaranteed your money back - maybe more. Here's the link if anyone is interested: http://www.dietbet.com/games/1

It was a pretty good day on the whole. Keira was feeling a lot better, though she's been waking at night recently. I got some work done and got my offer letter. I start my new job on April 8 and I sent a notice to one of the firms I work part-time for that I would be wrapping up then and they said they are going to send me an offer too! So I might have a couple of things to choose from. In any case, big changes ahead.

We went to see my grandmother because we missed her party the day before and probably ate a few too many leftovers, but I definitely exercised restraint. When I came home, I rode the exercise bike for a half an hour and tried out my new FitBit. Today is the first day I'm using it all day, so we'll see how it works out. One thing I noticed is that it sometimes calculates my time in the car as steps. Any other users notice that?

Hey.. I'm on FitBit too. I've noticed that bumpy roads do sometimes come up as steps. On days that I drive alot, I go for a higher step goal for myself.

    Friend me there... ;-)

I'll be interested in knowing how you like your Fitbit; I think it's time for me to have a new toy!!

It will, especially if it is a bumpy ride.
Some just leave the data alone but if you are interested in deducting those steps you can enter the following

Automobile or light truck (not a semi) driving

in the Fitness section of your FitBit page and it will deduct the steps counted during the time period you spent driving.

With regards to the job offers, I guess it is true that when it rains it pours!

Good luck with Dietbet!! Glad Keira is feeling better. Yay for new job!!
Yay for biking and fitbit!! My fitbit doesn't add very many steps from riding in the car (fewer than 50 in about 45 minutes).

Congrats on your job offer! Sometimes it seems like one thing is going right, it's easier to get things together in other areas of your life. Like attracts like!

FANTASTIC news with having another job offer to choose from.

With the Fibbit, stride length as FMREES mentioned is key. However, with a bumpy ride my hubs and I get a lot of Floors. He's a truck driver, so you can imagine how many floors he gets from the rig.

I love the sleep tracking and just started using the alarm in addition to keeping up with the steps.

glad to hear that you got to visit your grandmother and that Keira is doing better. I'm going to check out the dietbet site you mentioned. sounds motivating.

make sure your stride length is set up properly. that can make a diff in the sensitivity of step calculation

ah - having choices is always nice.. may the better offer win the prize of you!

I hadn't noticed the deal with the fitbit and driving - I will have to check but now that you mention it, it kinda makes sense based on how it works, especially if its in a pants pocket or some such place. I do sync it with SP, although I use it mostly for the total miles - to offset the double counting I delete the entry in miles and totals as I manually enter what I actually do as work-out steps (I don't count the steps from couch to fridge as workout steps emoticon )

Enjoy your new committment and good luck with the bet!
