The fan was excrementally assaulted

Not in my world, mind you, it's just a phrase I used in responding to another sparker's blog, and I thought it was a cool euphemism (figure it out) so I thought I'd share.

Had a good day today, despite not still having access to everything I need. Am getting a new work laptop, because there's something amiss with the one I received last week making it impossible to use the main piece of software I need to use.

Dragging a bit towards the end of the day, tired from making the call to go see Novembers Doom and Anneke van Giersbergen in concert last night. Don't regret that a bit, they put on a fantastic acoustic show. Novembers Doom, as a (bet you didn't see this coming) doom metal band already had a few slower pieces in their arsenal, and did a good job toning down others of their songs for the acoustic setting.

Anneke...well, let me put it this way. You know how a lot of us have that one actor or musician or whatever that we kinda sorta have a crush on? She was it for me back in the late 90s, anyway. I hadn't listened to much of her work in the past decade, but seeing her 10-12 feet away, speaking in that Dutch accent, singing with that incredible voice, interacting so darn adorably with the crowd, it was like I was 20 years old again, looking for any scrap of info I could find about her on the internet. So, yeah, that was awesome.

Highlights of the evening included Novembers Doom doing Twilight Innocence with the inspiration for the song, vocalist Paul Kuhr's daughter, hanging out at her father's elbow,

Paul and Larry joining Anneke for a moving version of What Could Have Been

And she even went back to her The Gathering days for a take on Locked Away.

The first couple are the original songs, the last one is Anneke solo, from a different show. Sadly, my phone's battery gave out too early in the evening to capture any video. There were definitely a bunch cell phones out, taping songs, so I'm hoping some of that shows up on youtube soon.

It can be so frustrating when you don't have the tools you need to do your job. You'd think they would be better prepared. But hopefully it will be resolved soon.

It sounds like it was a great concert. She has a great voice and I really like how well their voices blend in What Could Have Been. I love the music links you always post. I'm always on the lookout for new music and will listen to something from just about any genre.

Thanks for the comments on my blogs and for the music links there as well. I was really amused at the Metallica - Broken, Beat & Scarred. It's actually a great song to add to my workout playlist...with the irony being that Metallica is the ex's favorite band.
