Good Day at School

Monday, March 25, 2013

We had snow last night, but no delay and school was held as scheduled. I was glad because Spring Break starts on Friday for students and we needed to get a day of classes in today. We have already had five snow days and have added those days on in June. People often think teachers like snow days, but I do not. It just causes disrutpion to the educational process and I would rather have those days off in June than on some unpredictable, unscheduled day. It seems often now disruptions to the educational process are also caused by over-testing. Writing Assement, Acuity, Tech Steps, Westest and others take students from classes where they would be receiving instruction. I belive assessment is necessary, but it seems we have become such a digital, data driven society that the students are suffering as a result.

    I love your little poster!

I do love a snow day, it is a little gift. We had a 2 hour delay, although I was home sick with a sore throat so didn't go in. I also love snowy days at school, especially when the snow is packable. The children built snow sculptures for art and gym.

I agree with you. June is a waste--the kids are toast and I feel like I'm babysitting. My fourth graders just finished three days of state mandated testing and they are off the wall. Now I have to resume the academics. We are three weeks from our spring break. Agh! Have a great day! emoticon

Being a teacher can be a thankless job. Thanks!

I know what you mean. I don't mind having one snow day because we don't have to make it up but beyond that I don't like because then we do. I like your e-card. Teaching has become so focused on testing that kids can't have fun anymore. I teach kindergarten and it is amazing the things I teach them which is good but there are times I get frustrated and think, "These are just little kids, why should they be doing this?" Thanks for posting this blog.
