Wonderful Weekend!

Monday, March 25, 2013

Such a wonderful, productive weekend, despite rain, wind and tornado warnings!

As I told you Friday, I got my Spin-Bin composter all assembled and ready. Saturday started out grey with showers, that later turned into a blustery, cloudy day. My handyman, Tommy, came over and installed the fence around my garden area, and helped clear away more of the debris left by my ex BF.

Check out this pile of wood and debris. The trash can is full of yard trimmings and stuff I trimmed and picked up. The rest of it came from behind my two sheds. The cardboard box is full of trash. I still have stuff on the side of my smaller shed that Tommy will have to help me get to the curb, but it's much nicer back there now. Especially behind the big shed - that's about a 10 x 10 growing area now. The nicest part is that I've gotten rid of almost everything that was screwed up by him!

What a waste of plywood! And the wood from the trees, well, why anyone would stack large pieces behind a shed instead of taking them to the curb for the city to remove is beyond me! I could understand cutting and saving some to use in the chimnea, but all of these are much too big for that, and anyone with a brain knows that unless you protect the wood you want to use as firewood, it will rot.....and attract termites......and look just like this stuff! Idiot!!

On a brighter note, here's a little surprise I got in my front yard next to the carissa bushes:

In the two and a half years I've lived here, this has never appeared until now - Amarilys I think. I understand they don't always come up every year, so what a nice surprise!

Today was a strange day - Started out rainy and windy, and all of a sudden, about 8 minutes of sunshine:

Carissa is blooming - Smells so pretty!!

Hybiscus is blooming - Love this color!

And check out the lizards in my Christmas cactus:

Another glimps of my happy little home:

It stayed dry enough in the morning for me to mow the back yard and garden area. Then the wind came up really strong and I heard thunder so into the house to work on my sewing projects. Not only did we have thunder storms, but for about three hours, we had tornado warnings! Yikes! Thankfully, no nasty weather, and a great deal of sunshine by around 4:30 - Lovely, but windy!

The weather has been really strange here - it was 80 yesterday, and 65 for the low, and getting cooler! It's only 59 now, and the high today will only be around 70. And dry as a popcorn fart! This wind is really aggravating my allergies, so I'm going to take my meds and rest a bit.

Hope you all had wonderful weekends, too!

I laughed at your "popcorn fart" as hubby is always laughing at some of my sayings. I will have to remember that one.
