Thought and Prayer for Sunday, March 24, 2013

Debt is overwhelming at times. It is something that is easy to get but hard to get rid of. We borrow to get something we think we need or to help us in an emergency but then we end up paying on that debt for years to come. Having debt hanging over us is like carrying around extra weight on our bodies. It is always there and we can’t seem to get it out of our minds. That is why God wants us to pay off our debts so we can be free to live for Him without the distractions that debt can cause.

Proverbs 22:7 “Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we don’t want to be a servant to anyone but You. Help us to know what we need to do to get out of debt. This debt we have can sometimes consume us and bring us down. We need Your strength, Your courage and Your wisdom so we can know how to first change our spending habits and then get out of debt. We put our hope and trust in You today to release this bond of debt, this heaviness, we have created. Please forgive us for getting into debt. We come to You to repent and ask You to restore. Thank You, Jesus, thank You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we are carrying around thousands of dollars in debt it is like carrying around pounds and pounds of weight that continues to drag us down.

Getting out of debt takes longer than getting into debt. Let’s decide today to take on no more debt!

God can help us get out of debt but there are changes we will need to commit to before He can help us.

Debt can carry us down a road that we may never be able to turn back from.

When we owe no one, we may have nothing of the world, but we will have much from God.

2 Corinthians 6:10 “Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.” (NLT)
