I recommend a memorial service over a viewing and standard funeral any day! :) My Grandmother died a few weeks ago but yesterday was the first availability on the weekend the church had. And with my Grandmommy's last weeks being really hard on us because they were so hard on her we were fine with the break in-between. The funeral home did a burial a few days after she died and my aunt and her family went to that. So this was at my Grandmommy's church where we had a service then a small reception in the church hall afterwards to visit everyone. A few of us brought pictures so everyone milled and reminisced over them. We saw people we haven't seen in years but that I used to see all the time as a kid. Everyone talked about the good times with Grandmommy and laughed and enjoyed each other. The kids were either sneaking cake or playing hiding go seek. It was nice to remember her that way instead of the traditional funeral. It seems it took the edge off. I know she would have preferred it too.

At the reception, I did really good. I had 10 grapes and an orange wedge! lol! I knew we were going to eat mexican after we visited the cemetery. At the mexican restaurant the only bad thing I did was have a margarita. I ordered vegetarian fajitas with no cheese and no sour cream and corn tortillas instead of flour. I only had 2 chips from the chips and salsa too! And I only ate 2 of the corn tortillas from the packet.
I came home and tracked it all the best I could. It was around 712 calories. I had 390 for breakfast. I also took 3 bottles of water with me. One was equal to 2. So by the time we got back, I had already had all of the water I needed for the day! Although, I still had more last night. I also had some veggies. I wasn't really hungry after all the mexican and margarita but felt I needed to eat my last bit of calories for the day.
I DID go up a bit this morning but they may use more salt on their food than I do. Especially since I only eat the pink here. We'll see. It's just a day. :)
OH! And I was going to call it a wash on exercise since I knew it was going to be a long hard day, but when I got home I saw I wasn't at my 10,000 steps I had been doing so good to reach since I started this again, so I jumped on my treadmill until I got there! :)

So sorry to hear that your grandmother passed away. I agree that a memorial service can be much better; we Irish tend to have our long, dragged on wakes and funerals. Perhaps it's time for a change! I'm glad you were able to spend some time with your family and reminisce about her! emoticon

I really like your blog because that's how my church does it too. We have memorial services and afterwards, food to share together. It is a celebration of life just like for your dear grandmother. AND congratulations in doing SO well with the food! I hope you have a wonderful week. Love, Chelsea emoticon

Oh yes, a memorial service is much easier to handle than a full funeral service ! It's a nice celebration of your Grandma's life. It sounds like you handled it all very well . You even ate well & exercised to boot ! Good for you ! emoticon
