Mail the darn thing

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

sometimes i drop off bills, but because of where i live, hours i work and hours these places are open i have to drive to get there on time. i suppose in the summer i could take several days or afternoons to bike to various locations to pay bills. the one place is about 8 hours - 1 way. so basically if i hand deliver them and drive. with the time, sometimes a rush factor (if i forget on an earlier day) and the gas spent driving it costs more then the stamp to mail the darn thing.

So i believe i will need to sit down with hubby and tell him we should just mail it. yes, it means paying bills a few days earlier, but it would save time, reduce money spent on gas and reduce stress and annoyance of trying to fit a 25 -35 minute errand into 30 minutes.

This is a simple fix i will enact tomorrow and hopefully no longer have to hand deliver any more of these bills.

update - the 8 hour trip would not be driving the care it would by if i rode my non-motorized, no gas needed, bike.

Gas must be really cheap where you live, if you even THINK of driving 8 hours to drop off a payment!!!
For me that would be a $50 trip, but a stamp is only half a dollar!

Hubby and I have our "monthly" bills taken out of our checking account automatically. We started doing this when the price of stamps got too high!

95 % of my bills are paid on line... you can even set up your accounts to be taken right from your checking account.... never late ... don't have to stop at post office for stamps or run all over creation to pay bills. I still like to get a paper statment, which you can still elect to get....I'm just saying! lol

Sound like a great plan especially if one place is 8 hours away... you could go on vacation over night for a 16 hour trip.... :)

Another thing you might consider is paying the bills on-line, most places have that set up on their websites now. That way you save even the cost of the stamp and can wait until the due date to pay the bill with the bonus of no worry that the payment to lost in the mail (which has happened to me several times).
