The Kind of Weightloss that Doesn't Count

Monday, March 18, 2013

Quick update – I need to hold myself to this Sparking initiative!

I’m trying to see the bright side of having so many “struggles” recently. I swear if I wasn’t living it, I’d think I was crazy.

Last week my BF got sick with a stomach bug and had to stay home from work. I came home and furiously Lysol’ed every doorknob, surface, and fabric. I went back to the ENT on Thursday and got an all clear on my ear infection (it is finally official!) and ended up speeding all the way home because I felt like I was going to be sick. Next thing you know, I lost 5 lbs. in 24 hours. Yeah, you figure out the logistics on that one.

I haven’t eaten much all weekend, and my pants feel looser today, but I don’t think this counts as real weight loss. Let me see how the rest of the week goes when I start incorporating real food and workouts back into the mix. But moral of the story – be careful what you wish for! I wanted to magically lose weight, and I got it – the HARD way!

I had a little “why am I not healthy?!” meltdown this weekend but it taught me something. I was frustrated because I couldn’t take pepto bismol for 4 hours after taking my thyroid medication. I had a realization – I haven’t been taking care of my thyroid AT ALL. I get up, take my meds, and go along my business like I’m not sick, like I’m in some sort of denial that I have a disease. I did some research this weekend and there are several schools of thought that encourage eating a certain way or say there are things I can be more mindful of when choosing foods and exercises. I looked up some thyroid-friendly recipes and exercises and I’m feeling better about the whole situation already. How could I have been ignoring such a big part of my health and fitness?!

Anyways – I am stealing an idea from a fellow sparker and listing a few things that are making me happy at the moment. It can be hard to focus on the positive but I am going to FORCE myself to do it!

- My neighbor got a new lab puppy that is so cute I thought it was fake. Like Hollywood dog level cuteness. How can you be upset when you get to see something so soft and cute?!
- I made eggplant parm for the first time this weekend. BOOM no pasta in an Italian dish, and it was yummy too!
- I don’t have an ear infection anymore – yay!
- I get to go to the beach this weekend for my old roommate’s bachelorette party. I LOVE the beach!

Happy Monday Sparkers, let’s get through another week the more-right-than-wrong-way!

Bummer on being sick. Glad you feel better.
Learning to eat for hypothyroidism will only be a bonus moving forward.
GOOD for YOU, for looking into caring for yourself.
    Continued SUCCESS!

I have a few underlining health problems of my own that I am always in denial about. A real wake up call for me was when my boyfriend pointed one of them out. I was shocked because there really was a problem...but DUH I already knew that lol. But anyways, I hope you are feeling better!!
