Thought and Prayer for Sunday, March 17, 2013

Sunday, March 17, 2013

Distractions are everywhere. We can get distracted by others but often it is our own thoughts that distract us. Our thoughts about money can often distract us. We think about how we are going to make ends meet when we don’t have enough money. We think about what we are going to buy when we do have money. We worry about losing all our money. Our thoughts of money consume us and we miss what is going on around us. We allow money to be our thorn that keeps us from hearing God’s word.

Mark 4:18-19 “The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us today to stop thinking so much about money that we are distracted from You. Help us not be like the seed who falls among the thorns, who hears Your word but is distracted by worries, wealth and worldly things. We know that we can’t produce any good fruit for You when we focus on these things. We give ourselves completely to you today so You can help us to hear and obey You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Is money a distraction for you?

Worries, wealth and worldly things can keep us from focusing on God.

We can ask God to help us today to work through us so that we are not missing the message He has for us.

When we decide to stop worrying, thinking about money and desiring other worldly things, we can then begin to put our focus completely on God.

Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (NLT)
