tracking and incentivization

Monday, March 11, 2013

I'm all hooked up with phone apps - needed to supplement my spark! In times past, and I'm sure I'll get back there, I was very Wii active and I kept track of some things there, but my my mainstay is walking and some strength training. I needed to track the walking and hopefully incentivize myself. Unfortunately, there is not really a 'one size fits all' app. I have a combination of my fitnesspal, maymywalk/fitness, runtastic heart rate monitor and pedometer (I wanted to track steps). Some of these talk to other programs - unfortunately again, there is no consistency. Somehow between them all, they all sync up and all the information I want is somewhere. If anyone is/becomes aware of a one size fits all 'free' app let me know. What are you using? emoticon

emoticon Meanwhile, I went walking yesterday and monitored my route, my distance and speed, calories burned, steps and heart rate - along with some other items of interest. I even took a picture along the way and have the capability of listening to music. I also have the ability to score some points and even join some challenges.

Burned 88 cals
pace: 21 min mile
heart rate 79
distance 1.3 miles
27 minutes
2169 steps

I've accomplished my two goals - greater tracking ability and incentivization! I'm on the move!

thank you Sandy ... for some reason I thought that was a pay app! Yay! emoticon . I will check out the group too - I think because of you I joined a photography one too!

    So is the tracker optional?

Get the FitBit One or the Zip. They are techy pedometers that synch with SP.
I have used mine for three years. I upgraded to the One in January and love it!
There is even a FitBit Users team on SP. I have a group that I track my steps with and they motivate me to move it!

    Christina, thanks!
spark is the easiest for my food because so much of what i often eat is in there - and its available as an app too. Didn't think of using the wii to regular track weight (probably because I've fallen out of use of it and need to get back), so for that I use the old fashioned digital scale ;-) first thing in the morning because I'm out of the house at 5 a.m.
I was planning on summarizing my fitness activity back to it - so somewhere I'd have everything.

    Great job!
I track multiple places as well. My wii fit gets my weight/etc every morning before work. I track on myfitnesspal as well, and then here on spark. So I know how you feel. I think calorie wise and food wise, myfitness pal seems to be easiest for me.
