Stress eating

Friday, March 08, 2013

There are so many habits that you know are bad but continue to do. Stress eating has always been a really bad one for me. Lately I have been all about the stress eating, pizza, chinese food, deli sandwiches, burritos and hamburgers. All high in carbs and I won't even mention the sugar intake. With the stress eating comes the inability to get off the couch to even do simple things like clean. With the stress eating comes not sleeping. With the stress eating comes not caring how I look.

My sister and I started a happiness project and March is all about stress management. Learning new ways of coping with my stress. So far I am trying writing in a journal when I am stressed, sketching pictures and working on crafts. That is this weeks experiment. I have also created a few challenges for myself, replace breakfast with a green smoothie in the mornings during the work week, finish my couch to 5k program and make sleep important by establishing a good night time routine during the work week.

I know I can accomplish all these small goals to lead to a much bigger goal, I just need to kick out the stress and stress eating! Not as easy as it sounds of course but I need better habits, so March is dedicated to making a few better habits to replace some old one's.

Either way there is a taste of spring in the air and I am going to take advantage of it by walking, dog park, bike riding and gardening this weekend. No stress eating for this girl!

Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments. I am so glad that I don't struggle with this issue alone. I have been stress eating since I was a kid and my parents divorced. I am just so glad I finally realized how bad it had gotten so I can change it finally.

I have been thinking a lot about overeaters anonymous! I will also read that book! Anything and everything helps! emoticon

Stress eating? You know, how they alway say; when someone uses food or what ever else to help them cope.......there must be a void.

We all need new coping strategies after all, this is a major transformation and old habits die hard.

As long as...... we keep will all come together.

I wish you well on your weight-loss journey emoticon

Sounds like you've got some good strategies to try! Whenever I get stressed or upset I always bake something. It makes me feel so much better - as long as I give it away instead of eating it all : p

I sooo understand you about stress eating. I think I might be trying to force myself to change. I need to work on learning to enjoy the new habits I am trying to form.

I'd work on learning how to cope with the stress better. But, Chinese food and sushi are a serious vice I have for a rotten day so, not much room to talk there. emoticon Try making choices with a healthier spin, whole wheat crusts, riceless chinese food, burrito bowls sans tortilla...all small steps are progress!

Best of luck on your journey!

Hi! I would recommend following the step of the book "A Course in Weight Loss" it's really empowering. There's also the steps for Overeaters' anonymous...

I know I had a hard time with this too but once I started having negative emotions that related to food and realized food isn't the enemy nor is your body. It changed a lot for me. Good Luck this is a tricky issue and if it doesn't get resolved completely it will always come back to hunt us!
