Day 9 - 30-Day Paleo Challenge (3/5/13)

Friday, March 08, 2013

Okay, I've slacked for a few days. I've stayed kinda paleo, tried to anyways, but I turned 40 on Saturday and got a bit off-track with fun and then work.

Friday brought the requisite cake at work. I ate one small piece of carrot cake, shared the rest of it and the chocolate cake my supervisor brought in. I did, however, try the cauliflower pizza crust for dinner. It wasn't bad at all. Too think in the middle so it ended up gooey there but the crispy parts were really good.

Saturday we ran 5k, my second, and came in a minute faster than the first one. After race celebrations at Bob Evans made staying paleo pretty easy - an omelette, jash browns, and a biscuit (oops!). Then dinner at an Italian restaurant - shrimp and bread (oops!) - followed by some craft brews with my brother. All in all, it wasn't a successful diet day.

Sunday I had more work than I knew what to do with, and found myself in the car all afternoon which meant unhealthy munchies.

Yesterday and today I'm back to fruits, veggies, and some protein, but looking in the mirror this morning, I could really see the havoc I wreaked on myself. My face looks puffy again, I have no energy, haven't slept well, and there are dark circles under my eyes. Is the grain consumption entirely to blame? Probably not, but that was really the biggest change over the weekend so I'm sure it was a big contributor. And today my stomach is terribly upset - stomach bug, or poor diet? I have no idea though I suspect the latter.

So it's back to strictly watching what goes in my body. I really enjoyed those days of energy, clear skin, and feeling lighter.
