Threading the needle, balancing what you need with what you want...

Thursday, March 07, 2013

Yesterday was a tough on at work, someone brought in a box of doughnuts and there was a bag of nacho cheese doritos leftover from an evening happening. I had started the day with a thick slice of hubby's delicious sourdough bread, so I was already up on calories to start the day. It's crusty, so therefore hard to slice thin. I somehow managed to get through the entire day without having a doughnut OR a dorito... and since I'd eaten my fruits and veggies at work, I treated myself at home to a slice of cheesecake for dinner... and stayed within calories.

Today I started somewhat lighter and had a lighter lunch as well, so I was well able to have a nice little serving of doritos with my light hot pocket sandwich. It was nice. I also had a mound of grapes and carrots. I love being able to eat a big pile of freggies and know that I have hardly taken in any calories.

The big theme for me right now is Choice and Choosing. It kind of ties in with a blog I wrote some time back in which I talked about choosing not to care. I guess I have gotten back to choosing to care, which has been a fitful road indeed. I have the word "Choose!" in my fitbit, so I can see it and be reminded to think about what I am doing. I also got a new RoadID and under my personal info is "You Are What You Choose"... I wear them both all the time, except in the shower, but I don't keep snacks in the shower.

Overall, I am down 1,049 calories this week, but the scale is sitting stubbornly at 150.6... c'mon, I only want to lose 8.6 lbs!

It's always been a matter of choices. It's never easy to choose what we need over what we want but we always have to weigh the importance of what we want most and what we want now.
I like your reminders and the way you use them to motivate you. I think you're doing a great job! Keep it up!

emoticon Wow, you are doing great on the choosing! I hate it when coworkers bring in all that tempting stuff. I can pass on the doughnuts fairly easily but cookies and cake or homemade bread is my downfall. Stay strong.

Good point...to choose or not to choose, that is the question!

Sounds like you are making the better choices overall now and that will go in the positive direction rather than the negative direction...so have faith in that my friend!!!
    Keep on tracking!!!!!
