Lunch out

Yesterday I was rebellious and ready for a change so we had lunch out - my first meal out in a restaurant since January 1st. I was a little apprehensive but the menu looked good and I had the fish with a side salad and balsemic vinegar. (DH got my mashed potatoes!)

The fish was grouper cooked beautifully topped with capers and black olives which made it a little salty. It was quite heavy on the balsemic vinegar, something I hadn't tested yet...
The meal was lovely, I stayed away from the ubiquitous chips and salsa and left the garlic bread and my mashed potatoes to DH. So all in all it was a fairly light lunch and as nice as it was to be out, I missed my veggies. I realized I must have become quite obsessed about my meals and need to relax a bit - the occasional change isn't going to hurt me in the long run... ok, so I was up this morning but a few days back on plan should take care of that. The important thing is to let life happen and have some fun now and then.

    Good job Lis! I love taking the guess work out of weight gain now. You have done so well, so it is good that you gave yourself a break. It isn't the end of the world. You are in full control and now you know what to do. I'm right beside you on this one!

    good choice, plenty of protein. You can always make up for lack of freggies at the next meal, a salad or a couple of portions of fruit will get you back on track.

    It sounds like you have taken another major step on your Spark journey. No longer a dieter, now living the good life, making healthy choices

    How well said Lis. We do have to find a way to enjoy life and one thing we all enjoy is eating.
    That meal look pretty fancy to me. Yum!

    I can't believe you were up in weight from that meal unless it was because of the sodium! You scarcely ate anything. I like the taste of balsamic -- but not if it is too heavy. In fact, if I go to a new place to eat and order a Caesar's Salad, I ask for the dressing on the side because for me, too much dressing spoils it.

    I could never get out of restaurant meals for that long of a stretch, we usually go out at least once a week. DH would probably like it if I suggested it more often; but he knows I'm put off by restaurants due to the weight gain.

    Looks like you made a great choice!! I almost send myself into a panic now when somebody says "do you want to go out to eat?" YES!! but no, not really,,,,,, it will be too hard,,,,, it will be too much temptation. But then I realized that I can't not go out to eat ever again for the rest of my life and I just have to learn to be selective. And I found out that most places to have some good healthy choices on their menus and yes, I still have to avoid the temptation, but once I did, I was very proud of myself for the choices I made. Now grant you it may not always be that way, but I do have the tools and the motivation to "do the right thing"
    PS by the looks and sound of what you ate your "gain" was not likely from your lunch. Just one of those flukes and I'm sure when you weight again it will be gone! emoticon
