Tracking into Spring
Monday, March 04, 2013
I joined the Positive Bloggers team last week and then didn't post all week!! Last Sunday, my brother gave me a box from his basement filled with an absolute gold-mine of family history and I have been sifting and sorting all week. What fun! (A side-note: always write who's in the picture on the back of your photos. It really helps the family historians!!)
But now, back to business.
Last August, I blew a 20 month exercise streak and at that point, I just didn't care. (I'm pretty sure I blogged about it but I couldn't find the blog. I did have fun reading through the blogs from September, 2012 when I started to change the direction of the path.) I did resume my exercise streak again with a more achievable goal and although the short, cold, and icy month of February proved to be a bit of a challenge, I made my goal.
I looked at my Spark Streaks: a 6 month streak for my current exercise goal. 6 months since I took the different path, this time spending more time looking at the mind-body connection. It's been an awesome time for me; many good things have happened and there are days when I am so overwhelmed with gratitude that I can't even begin to put it into words.
I got on the scale this morning. I haven't lost any weight, I haven't gained any weight, I maintained. I don't have a problem with that; it's actually good in my estimation that I was able to maintain my weight through good choices and the not so good ones. I started this journey almost 4 years ago with the idea of simply being healthy; the weight loss was to be a bonus. (And I am definitely healthy!!)
And now it's time to get back to focusing on weight loss.
I have a closet full of clothes that I want to be able to wear again (and Spring is coming!!) and for that reason, I've decided that it's time to start tracking my food again. I haven't been tracking for a long time and I had forgotten what a hassle the tracker can be when you're in a hurry. It takes so long for my favorites to load; perhaps there's some older favorites there that could be deleted and then it might take less time?
What an eye-opener! There's a lot there that I don't eat any more. I can see that I've been making better choices especially over the past 6 months. Gone are a lot of the processed foods that used to make up most of my daily meals, replaced by lots of fresh vegetables (I've been wanting to write a blog called "In Praise of Kale", my new favorite vegetable) healthy spices, and things of my own creation; some great and some not so great.("What would happen if I added some tahini to this? Oops, maybe not.")
Tracking is actually fun again. (And I have discovered that on some days, I'm not eating enough. How is THAT possible?) I'm tweaking and experimenting and this part of the journey is new again. That's the great thing about SP; there's so many different ways to accomplish what you want to do and when you need to try something different, there are more options! (Even after almost 4 years.)
Spring is coming; it's my favorite season, the season of new growth and change.
And new clothes.
