(My Eulogy to my Dad)
Marla Firm Costello
My name is Marla & I am one of Bruce's daughters. You will all remember him in your own way but this is a glimpse of who he was to me. He simply was a good man! The relationship that he shared with each of us was far more important than anything that money could buy. Dad knew the value of hard work & he wore many hats - a coal miner, clay miner, sawmill operator, boiler fireman, delivered coal, a farmer, a gardner. He loved planting gardens & come harvest time he truly enjoyed sharing his bounty with others.
What Dad transferred to me was his honesty, kindness, love & his passion for the Word of God & Eternal Faith in Christ. I remember him reading his Bible a lot & taking us to the Meetings with him. He taught each of his Grandchildren a Bible Verse - John 3:16 ~ "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever Believeth on Him should not Parish but have Everlasting Life."
I've had some hard times in my life but he was always there to listen & offer words of comfort & wisdom through scripture. He'd give me passages to look up & that always helped me through those hard times.
Today is an opportunity for us to celebrate his life ~ his wisdom & his wit. And the strong character this God-loving man demonstrated & instilled in each of us.
Home was everything to Dad. He wasn't much for traveling or visiting ~ he always wanted to get back home. Now he has gone to his Heavenly Home to be with the Lord & be greeted by his loved ones who have passed. No more suffering. But he'll always live on here with each of us. We'll always remember Dad ~ be able to laugh at his special stories. More importantly he lives on in his Eternal home with our Dear Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.
One of the best ways we can honor & remember Dad is by sharing our memories of him & by keeping his Spirit alive with kindness. Let's continue to love him by loving & taking care of one another as he took care of us.
He was my biggest Hero! Always there when you needed him. We were so Blessed to have him in our lives.
We are grateful you all could join us in celebrating Dad's life ~ all 98 years!
Thank You Dad for just being YOU! A kinder more gentle man I've never met. Keep watch on us as you always have & may the Peace of our Lord be with you & with us all. God Bless. I love you Dad.
