Almond butter

Saturday, March 02, 2013

I used to love peanut butter, it was my favorite snack and I slathered it on crackers, cookies and even just a spoonful on its own. A bag of PB M&M's was my favorite treat to have on hand. Since getting back on track in January I haven't touched the stuff but nibbled on almonds instead. In the book The Plan she mentioned almond butter and I have kept my eye open for it but hey, this is Mexico and not everything is easily found... until yesterday :) We went into the Import Store and there it was: Trader Joe's almond butter. They had the peanut butter before but never the almond butter - it was my lucky day!

It was a little pricy at 125 pesos ($10) but so worth it :)
I had half an apple with 1 Tablespoon of almond butter for my snack - it was so good. I like almond butter better than peanut butter and this one has no added ingredients... almonds only.

I would love to be able to eat almond butter. I love almonds but not a big fan of peanuts or peanut butter. Sadly, I reacted to almonds and have been having difficulty trying to find something that works well when The Plan calls for almonds or almond butter.

I tried Roasted Sunflower Seed Butter (because there was no raw version anywhere in my stores). I am still not certain whether it worked for me. So, I shopped around and found a very small jar of raw pumpkin seed butter for $14. I am still trying to determine if that works.

I've been working with The Plan religiously since my Day 1 (Book menu) on Jan 12.

Hope to retest almonds and almond butter in a few months after I do my six week course of MSM. I think allergies are interfering with my results.

I tried almond butter once, but haven't found a brand I like. I will have to look for that. If it is about that price here, that beats the $17 stuff I saw last.

I love almond butter too and that apple slices with almond or sunflower butter is my FAVORITE treat when on my challenges!

I am so glad you found some! Happy day 2 to you!

Thanks Javaflower for the price comparison! I bought almonds at our mexican Sams Club for 50 pesos ($4)/pound this morning, so making my own wouldn't have been much cheaper with the added risk of messing up my old blender.

The price you paid is pretty equitable to what I have found for the unsalted, creamy almond butter in every store around where I live in the US, from $9 - $15 for an average size jar. Now I am looking for it to be on sale! YuMMY!

Oh wow, how lucky were you! That is awesome. Aren't we funny about finding things in Mexico. I get so excited myself sometimes that the price is secondary!
    Good find.
    Enjoy!

If you can get almonds, you can make your own, check out spark recipes (you would need a food processor or a good blender too). I love almond butter too!
