the best-laid plans... foiled again!

Saturday, March 02, 2013

this is a blog inspired by the 5% challenge, about habits we'd like to create.
habit no. 1 is getting 8 hrs of sleep.

sounds easy enough, just go to bed 8 hrs before you want to get up, right?

not so easy if you've got three cats and no doors, and one of those cats is georgie.
this fella is a prime example of a calculating cat. he wants breakfast about 4 hrs into those 8, never fails. breakfast? oh no, he'd rather go OUT. meaning I have to get up, get dressed, and take him downstairs.
how does he do it? two techniques. first, his claws; he can portion out the pressure just enough not to scratch my skin, but activate my nerves enough to... well... ok you get the picture. second, he walks all over my hair. no, not the long stuff that's all over the pillow, he gets to the root of things so I get the impression i'm going bald.

not bad for a cat the vet was planning on putting down just five days ago.

and what am I going to do about it?
learn to live with it, I suppose. i'm just glad georgie is still around.

oj, that's what sunshine does. gets on the nighttable, then ambushes me, jumps with all his 20 lbs (times 3!) onto my stomach to get me up. among other strategies.

My cat is not so gentle. First he starts with a warning meow. Then he shakes the blinds violently. Then if I still continue to ignore him he races around the room and then all of the sudden PLOP he uses my stomach as a trampoline. lol so I totally feel for you there.

I have started to feed my cats at night so that helps them a bit to settle down and not bother me in the middle of it. If I also have the forethought to play with them right before bed, it seems to keep them content for longer.

    Little buggers...

What great and fun companions cats are for us; true they complicate our lives, but we wouldn't want it any other way. They're clever and give so much love and affection to us; Thank God we have them. The only thing I would change is where your litter box is; think about it and I hope you come up with something else. Sitting in the dining room is a little bit offputting right now!
Congratulations on going back to your passion and keeping your weight in check to do so. I admire your commitment and your love for dance.

Our cat used to do stuff like that. We also had no door on our bedroom, so it was a free for all for the cat!

    Best of luck to you!

My cat used to wake me up by pulling the cupboard door open & letting them slam shut. Cats are definitely conniving!

Sounds a little like my cat Pussass, he gets on the pillow and paws my head and drools on me until I get up and let him out.

Not the best way to wake up is it? emoticon
