I need a workout buddy!

Friday, March 01, 2013

The ladies in the office went out to a bar with a former co-worker last night - they call it "choir practice", though by the time the singing starts, no church would have 'em! This morning they were talking about what fancy drinks they had and showing funny pictures they'd snapped on their phones. They were telling the boss about it as I walked by his office, and I just piped up with "Yesterday, I went to the gym." Boy, was *that* a conversation stopper! Kinda funny in a way.

Now I'm sure I wasn't invited because they knew beforehand that I would politely beg off, but that doesn't mean I don't plan a day here or there to practice my choir skills. You all have read about my book club evenings - whew! I'm not afraid to indulge every once in a while, that's for sure!

But, what I realized I was missing was somebody to compare awesome kale recipes with or swap pictures of ourselves in our racing bibs before the latest 5k. There was a lady in the office who moved away over the summer, and she was into going to the gym and eating healthy, and, by golly, I miss her! And, whereas it is nice to have SparkPeople to make connections, share, commiserate, etc., it's still different than a live body in front of you saying "way to go!" or "that sucks about your ITB flaring up again" - you know?

Unfortunately, I am also a bit shy, so making friends at the gym is really difficult for me. I think I'm going to have to just add it to my list of goals to work on, though. It would be really nice to have someone to get all nerdy-runner and geeky-eater with, I'm thinking. And somebody close to my own age who isn't running 6 minute miles, if that isn't asking too much :-)

On a happier note, the scale gods were good to me this morning. Got to move the ticker a little bit in the right direction again, thankfully!

Happy Friday, Sparkies!

I know how you feel. I lost my human walking partner (I don't think she was real passionate about it in the first place) and my dog, well, she requires that I carry a plastic bag with me and perform duties I find to be a bit off-putting, so she doesn't get to go with me often due (doo) to that fact. It's tricky to find someone in your neighborhood who wants to do the same exercise you do at the same time and the same pace. Good luck!

I am a shy person also and wish I had a healthy lifestyle buddy to help encourage and support and have fun with also. I'm trying to push myself out of my comfort zone and try to meet new people. You have to go out and get the things you want and/ or need. Try looking up meet up groups in your area, for activities you enjoy doing. Like minded people who you can get all nerdy with! ;)
