Advice to a friend who feels hungry on her plan

Friday, March 01, 2013

Congratulations on starting your program! Sounds like you have had some initial success, and you can go on from there. HIgh-five!

Any exercise you are doing is a plus. You are running circles around all the people who are on the couch being sedentary. Fat is energy. You have stored energy that you can spend.

You are progressing, and you do not have to be perfect. Just a little better than yesterday. Just do what you can and it will be good enough. Start wherever you are. do whatever you can with whatever you`ve got.

Hunger is scary, but actually I read that people can go for weeks without food and still survive. Going a few hours will not be detrimental. Hunger is to be expected when losing weight, if we do not snack on low calorie vegetables or drink plenty of water or unsweetened tea.

I found that water extinguishes my hunger if I drink a lot (8 or more cups per day). I don't like the taste of plain water, so I put pineapple cores in a glass of water in the refrigerator until it takes on a pineapple flavor, as a treat. Usually, I just force myself to drink the water plain because it is convenient. Sometimes I will splurge on an imported mineral water like Perrier (from France) or Pellegrino (from Italy).

Are you allowed to eat some low calorie vegetables (like cucumbers or broccoli) when you are hungry between meals? Weight watchers encouraged this. My current program says that every time we eat vegetables, we have to eat some lean protein, too (fish, meat cottage cheese, or poultry).

Weight watchers encouraged making a big pot of vegetable soup (without starchy vegetables (no lentils, beans, potatoes) just green vegetables and low calorie vegetables like eggplant, tomatoes, cauliflower, zucchini, onions, celery in a fat free chicken or beef stock. I used to make a big pot to eat when I got hungry. Eating vegetables and the soup was my best tool for losing weight without hunger.

Do you like salads? If so, lettuce, tomatoes, and dried onion flakes may tide you over to the next meal, if you are allowed to eat between meals on your program. I can eat it if it has a dressing like lime juice or vinegar and olive oil.

We can do this. We just have to take that first step each day. And if we get off track, we can know that there is really no TRACK. There is just today and NOW, so we get back up and get going again.

You have accomplished a LOT of great things in your life, so I know you can apply your talents to accomplish this and you will be a success!
