Loving Yourself: My Body Pledge of Allegiance

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Thursday, February 28, 2013

I have decided that it is my desire and conscious CHOICE to walk through each step of this journey ahead of me by honoring and respecting the body given to me. I have been thinking and reflecting as I have blogged and researched this month about what I have read and written. It got me to thinking - What better goal can we set for ourselves than to be our own cheerleader and champion? Below you’ll find my Pledge of Allegiance to Myself that I have been working on throughout this month as I have engaged in the introspection of myself.

My Body Pledge of Allegiance:

Today, I vow to start loving my body – no matter how I am feeling, how I look, and wherever I am in my journey.

I promise to stop the self- criticism, negative self talk, and to be present in each moment to stop and acknowledge my negative thoughts, and how I am feeling. This will help me realize that almost everything my inner critic says is not true, and to change my beliefs.

I pledge to never again to participate in a barrage of bashing of myself. This includes picking myself apart when I make an error in judgment or a mistake – no matter how big or small.

I promise to begin treating my body with respect by feeding it what it needs, and taking care of it so it can function as efficiently as it can - no matter what my age.

I promise to recognize that I can only ask so much of my body, and that it deserves to sleep and rest in order to prepare for the next day, and I will honor by giving it at least 7 hours of sleep every night.

I promise not to consciously or unconsciously compare my body to others.

I promise not to be influenced by the media, or the fashion industry in what makes a woman beautiful, or the right size. I know that the media does not set the standards for beauty or my self esteem, and is there only to further their own agendas, and line their pocketbooks.

I vow that I will no longer let the scale or a certain size define me.

I promise to recognize that all body types can be beautiful - including mine.

I pledge to recognize my strengths, achievements, and attractiveness. I will affirm to myself every day that I am wonderful just as I am in that moment.

I promise not to criticize myself, punish myself, or feel guilty when I make a mistake. I am human, not perfect; I know that my mistakes are a way to help me learn, which then helps me become stronger.

I pledge to be true to myself and others because it is who I wish to be.

I promise to stand up, and speak up for myself and others when I hear something harmful or emotionally demeaning said. We all deserve the respect and love of others.

I vow that I will remember that I deserve to love myself right here and right now – in every moment.

Today, and every day from here forward, these are my choices!

It has been my goal this month to help you discover, along with me, how to love yourself more. I have only one question for you now. Are you ready to sign a pledge to be your own body champion?

Pledge your desire to champion yourself by saying so in the comments section below, and sharing with us which statement(s) you will embrace, and then adding your name to the list below. It can be one, a few, or all of them; whatever you feel is pertinent to you at this time of your life.

If you feel strong enough about this endeavor and pledge, I respectively request that you send the link to this blog to your Spark Friends who you think might be interested in championing themselves, or just hit the button "Share This Page With Others".

Let's "spark" a mini revolution of loving ourselves! Thanks for stopping by!

My pledge of allegiance to my body:

You are the "temple of my familiar" --- a sacred body housing a sacred soul, and you are part of a sacred universe that welcomes us all to be at home.

Your hair is a crown for the head that keeps your beautiful brain protected.

Your face is a candle that can be lit with a smile.

Your hands are instruments to be played for good.

    Your hips signify your femininity.

Your knees carry the weight of the upper body in order to keep you grounded.

Your legs propel you forward or seat you comfortably in meditation.

Your feet are on the ground, your heart is in your hands.

Your eyes see so many opportunities to be healthy and satisfied.

    I am grateful for you.

I never before thought of pledging allegiance to myself. What an awesome concept! The hardest part for me is comparing myself to others, but I am now able to recognize when I do it and remind myself that I am on my own journey to better health. Thanks for the great blog. emoticon

These certainly are beautiful words... and I understand the importance of affirmation.

I would like to add, that I pledge to not be hard on myself if I cannot at all times, live up to these expectations.

I pledge that in making every effort to live up to them, I will make every moment about energetic integrity -The energy of love,

As this is a growing awareness, I will choose to be ever more self lovingly aware of the feeling of the energy of the food (& drink and everything else I ingest) that I choose / the way I prepare that food / way I eat / the reading material I choose / the music / the energy of each and every conversation / the way I walk / exercise / the way I get up in the morning and go to bed at night / every time I meet my children, my wife and equally so, how I meet a stranger, the store manager, receptionist, every human being...

...That every time I meet another human being, I am really also looking inward at the same time at the energy I hold in my body, and choose love, to meet them with.

I pledge to not rely on the recognition and acceptance of others, in order to be the love that I am.

I also pledge to not seek something more, something better outside myself, than who I already am, in my Innermost Truth, which is everything I need to be and can be.

This is my pledge, which I will work with, until all my choices leads me back to to Union with the love I already am, that we all are and all originally came from.

Thank you for a great blog. I have said the same thing but differently that we have to stop the negative attitude to ourselves.

I love the idea of using a pledge to reinforce this goal.

I pledge to enjoy my life each and everyday.

I pledge to acknowledge my accomplishments and not focus so much on how far I have to go. It is the journey that makes life interesting.

I love your image and would like to use it if that is okay.

Hello, Just wanted you to know that I cried when I read this. It seemed as if you wrote this just for me. I am so thankful for this post and I wish there was a way for me to copy this and put it on my fridge. I have struggled for the last seven years with my weight. On a daily basis I find things wrong with me. And every time I try to pick myself back up I fall even harder each time. No one in my house is very supportive with eating right or exercising. I just wanted you to know that I love this. Have a great day! emoticon

I pledge!! Its so amazing how things work sometimes!! I have been thinking exactly the same thing over and over again today and there I came across this blog like bang on! m totally in and yes I feel being thyself and loving thyself is "the panacea" for most of the weight related issues..We encourage transformations and let them manifest when we start loving ourselves and work towards our goals with the positivity rather than with the negative energy of comparision, jealousy, unhealthy fire!
Peace and God bless! emoticon emoticon

I pledge that from this day forward I will look the at the accomplishments I've made and not how far I have to go. I pledge that when someone gives me a compliant I will allow myself to enjoy it and say thank you, not correct them and say I missed that week's goal. I will allow myself to glow in knowing how much stronger I am getting. I will not let myself feel bad for making a mistake in my diet or not working out 7 days a week. This is my pledge to myself!!!! emoticon

That would be the second commandment of God. Love yourself so you can love others. I agree with your pledge......Great reminder to read everyday. I hope its ok I copied and pasted to print out...

Thank you sooo much for your blog. It is a WONDERFUL Pledge!
    1854 days ago
I pledge to think about this pledge before I put food in my mouth. I pledge to not eat just because I am stressed , instead to do a 3-5 minute exercise or movement and then drink some water and continue by doing an activity that needs to be done.(laundry, dishes so forth). I pledge to be disilpined to myself and God and to take it one day at a time like I did when I stopped smoking 14 years ago. I promise to remind myself I still have kids who need my help and my death would put them in a homeless and horrrible situation. I will remind myself that I am being selfish when it comes to eating and that I need not to satisfy the sugary desire that I have at that moment...
I pledge to see beautiful results come this summer.

Beautiful Sharon. This is exactly where I've landed in the last month or so and it's UNBELIEVABLE the difference it makes. My attention is focused on the things really important to me- after years and years of channeling my energy into hatred of myself. Now I am allowing myself to go out in the world and make a difference to myself and others!!
