Pushing Through

Thursday, February 28, 2013

I came down with my son's cold over the weekend. Loads of congestion! I gained over 5 pounds in 3 days before I realized that I was sick, not just dehydrated from our day in Boston. I started taking decongestants and I've dropped 6 pounds since Monday morning. From my highest weigh-in since reaching goal to my lowest weight in 3 weeks... weird.

Between zinc and the decongestants I feel human but not great. I've been doing easy workouts (centergy, slow runs, elliptical) and skipping my strength training because I'm currently lifting very heavy for low reps. (1) I know I can't lift my normal amounts feeling like this and (2) last time I did a heavy lifting workout while sick I got really sick and (3) I'm afraid I might actually hurt myself on rep 1 because I don't know exactly what I ought to be lifting feeling like this. So... a week off from lifting. Getting sick may have been my body's way of telling me it was time anyway.

House is plugging along. It's at a decent 'steady state' right now but with the kids off for a week and this cold I haven't made any advances. I'm in maintenance mode with the house LOL!

I finished the reading for the next unit of my FNS. I'll do the video lectures and quiz this afternoon. Then onto the NEXT unit. I just signed up for 3 courses through Coursera. The first of those starts in April so I'd really like to be done with the FNS by the time the course starts. I'm still up in the air over whether or not I want to do the Certified Personal Trainer course. It seems like a LOT of work and, as valuable as I may find it for my own fitness, when I think of ways in which I might use this coursework professionally I'm so much more excited about the nutrition/wellness angle than the pure fitness angle.

We have a full weekend ahead of us. The middle school talent show is tomorrow night. My kids want NOTHING to do with performing but we're going to watch. Saturday we'll do the last of the shopping to prepare my son for his class trip to DC (ack!) and then we'll go out to dinner as a family. Sunday DH and I are bottling our wine and will get to bring it home. I've planned a nice Sunday dinner and we'll all do homework/housework.
