Kick off to the 5% Challenge

Yesterday was the kick off to the 5% Winter into Spring Challenge. I'm off to a mixed beginning. Worked out yesterday at the gym (ran 5 miles!) but didn't eat too well. I've already decided that I'll have one day (usually Saturday) where I don't worry as much about the calories. This is mostly because I'll probably still have one weekend day of heavy drinking, while cutting back drastically on the other days. Even with my drinking and eating brunch and dinner out, I only went over my calorie count by about 350 calories and with the workout, my differential was still -260. Today was a complete snow day so I didn't go to the gym (or motivate myself to work out much at home) and I ate all the way to the top of my calorie range so I won't have much of a differential (although I think it will still be negative).
The challenge is already helping me to think about the consequences of things though. For instance, today I had regular hot chocolate (no sugar added, skim milk) instead of the alcoholic hot chocolate (hello calorie overload) that I usually favor on snow days. I have also been trying to drink tons of water (usually I skimp on this over the weekend) because the extra points this week are for drinking 10 glasses of water. I only ate half a serving of Thin Mints because I knew I was running out of calories for the day. I have also upped my minimum of ten minutes daily to 15 thanks to a team goal.
Some other strategies that I plan on implementing over the challenge include getting a bonus spin every day (this encourages me to track food, comment on blogs, track minutes and post on the message boards) and lots of meal planning. Last month I planned out two weeks of meals and prepped them all in one day, I'm shooting to plan all of March at once (we're also getting a membership to Costco so it will be most cost effective!) I will need to work out six days a week I think to make my goal of almost 8 pounds in 8 weeks so I'm trying to plan my week ahead of time and see when workouts will fit (AM if they must)
I had gotten off track entirely of counting my calories and I had started munching and grazing again and I really don't want to keep those habits around, so I'm starting today, right now, to get a hold of myself again! The beau and I are talking about a beach vacation at the end of April (right after this challenge, how convenient!) so I've got some motivation to meet my goal! I also ordered a pair of fire fans today, and I plan on performing in front of people with them so I will want to look my best. Time to recommit to the healthy changes I had started last year!
Since 7.6 lbs is going to be a lot of work, I've been trying to rack my brain for a really awesome reward if I make it. Any ideas? I recently got my hair cut, so that won't work. I'm thinking maybe some sexy new underwear? I also want to set up a "lesser" prize just for sticking with the challenge and really making the effort, probably a running accessory. Hmmmm maybe the big reward could be some really snazzy performance clothes to wear when using the fire fans...
