Self Discovery 101

Friday, February 22, 2013

Well, I have been trying to follow The Plan for the last 8 days and I must say it has been a very frustrating journey. I was ready to give up, but my stubborn, analytical side kicked in and I am determined to get to the bottom of this weight loss thing, for me. I was losing 1 lb a day for the first few days. Then I stalled and only lost .4 lbs. Then I started yo-yoing up .4 lbs, down 4.4 lbs then up .4 lbs. Then up again .4 lbs. That's when my stubborn, determined side kicked in and I decided to analyze my food trackers for the last 3 months and try to figure out what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. I even went back to days before The Plan when I had lost a significant amount of weight, to see if I could figure out a pattern. After 1 1/2 hours of looking at everything I ate and the combinations of what I ate, I found a pattern. Eureka!

It seems that there are certain foods that are friendly to me, if I eat them alone. But if I combine them with other particular foods, the combintion is reactive. Now this was no small feat to figure out! And I am not positive about this, but it is worth testing.

So now I am going to test combinations. For instant it appears that I can not have tea and chocolate on the same day. Also, if I have a bit of sugar (we are talking only 2 tsp) I have to watch my fruit as that has sugar, also. But it is not about how many servings of fruit. It is about the type of fruit and whether or not it is high in natural sugars or not. Even high glycemic vegetables are included. Like potatoes, carrots, beets and beets. This is all basically conjecture, but my detailed analysis of my food trackers does consistently show a correspondense. I seems to have something to do with caffeine and sugar combinations, even naturally occuring sugars.

I imagine that there are other variables also, like quality of sleep, exercise etc. Like I said, this has not been an easy journey for me, but I want to know why I haven't been able to lose all my weight in the last 3 years, in spite trying to eat what I thought was a healthy and balanced diet.

Until next time....Too-da-loo!

Great to see that your hard work has paid off
for you. In the 70's I had a friend that was on
the Dr Hayes eating plan. alkaline foods with
alkaline and non alkaline with like also. You
eat meat and veg but no potato, something
like that and she was the healthiest girl I knew.
I try and figure out what doesn't suit me too.
I have recently found that milk on its own gives
me gas, so I am trying to see if it's all dairy.
Maybe I am lactose intolerant. With your
encouraging results, I will try and figure this out
too. Thanks Maureen. I hope your packing is going
    well. Have a great weekend.

That was quite a lot of work trying to figure all that out! Good luck with getting the combinations just right for yourself - and good on you for making the effort to keep making good progress! Hope you see some great results soon.

Hope all is going well on the moving etc. front too!

    Hugs and blessings, Nattacia

Suzanne Sommers wrote about food combinations when she did research for her hubby Alan because he has diabetes. She decided the French had it down right, meat and veggies or starches (bread, potatoes, pasta) and veggies but not meat (protein) and starches and of course moderation in everything

Hum, very, very interesting. I am now wondering if the combination of chicken and sweet potato with the sugar in the Newman's dressing did the number on me. I think this is very good information to test on our bodies. Thank you for putting this together and doing the work. The good news is that we now know that our bodies handle things differently. Who would have thought.
I am tayloring the plan to my own likes and working mostly with the food reactive list. Feeling good now that I am paying attention to it. I hope you will get to where you know what to step away from and what you can eat when ever you want. It's so darn interesting.
Have a terrific day and thank you so much for posting.
    cheers

So glad you figured it out! Food combinations can be hazardous. I can eat rice and I can eat chicken - put them together... maybe not so much, I still need to test this but historically this has been a bad combination and I always blamed the rice. I had rice last night and was down half a pound... go figure!
Stick with what works for you and you will get results.
