The Forgotten Protectors of Our Country
Thursday, February 21, 2013
I don't use my blog to talk about things other than my health often. Also, I am in no way a political person. I try to stay away from those kind of conversations. However, today i am a bit frustrated with our government and need to vent.
You see my husband is a United States Border Patrol Agent. The often forgotten protectors of our country. Regardless of your stance on immigration, most do not realize just what a border patrol agent protects our country from day in a day out. Often it seems they are fighting a losing battle with little help from the law, however, they go to work each day hoping to do good and to protect and serve our country. Each day when he leaves I like many other wives across this country kiss him good-bye and pray for his safe return at the end of his shift. I have been to two funerals for fellow agents over the past 14 years that my husband has served and have prayed for several families of agents from other stations around the country that I never knew, but were killed in the line of duty.
So, when our government can't make decisions on a budget to pay these agents, I am upset for more reasons than just money. If there is not a decision made by April 1st my husband and ever other border patrol agent, along with all other federal law enforcement will take a huge pay cut. 40% to be exact. That is just a wonderful way to show respect for men and women who put on a bullet proof vest each day when going to work.
Our home and bills are based on what we make now, a 40 % reduction will cripple us. I am sure other families are thinking the same thing. What cuts can we make to ensure we can still pay our bills. Do we stop putting money into our retirement? A retirement that comes at a younger age because of the nature of the job.
I love our country. My husband loves our country. We teach our children to love our country. Each day my husband and many others will continue to protect our country with little thanks. Right now, I wish our country loved us as much as we love it.
