Arthritis in my back again. Meh. Life goes on.

Well, I was a week early on the 5% challenge. But I guess that it's not a bad thing to lose a pound or two this week before it officially starts. Can't really complain about that!

I've been pretty good about eating for the past several days. I hope that's a sign that the challenge will do me good. On the other hand, I haven't exercised. That's gotta change. I did do ST last Thursday, and ran 30 minutes.

Finally went to the chiropractor about my upper back pain. As I suspected, the x-rays showed degenerating disks from the neck down, and a kink in my spine just around where the back and neck meet. Swell. Now the stenosis in my lumbar region will have company. :D However, I'm not going to do the therapy. They want me there 3 days a week for two weeks and then once a week thereafter. With $20 co-pays, I don't see that happening. I'm going to lose several hundred dollars a month for 6 months due to cut-backs at work, so I don't have the extra money.

And anyway, I'm used to the pain. I just wanted to be sure what was causing it. I'd rather pay $36 a month to my gym where I can work out, do ST, and stay on track losing this extra weight. I think that's the best thing I can do. Having somebody crack my back and put some silly throbbing sensors on it isn't going to fix arthritis. Staying active and losing weight will make a real difference.

So, off to the races! Health was a real big motivator for me to begin with. My back is really better, at least the lower back, and I don't have foot pain anymore and my hip is not bad, either. And I still don't want to get diabetes and other weight-related health problems that run in my family, like heart disease. I just have to keep remembering this stuff.

Plus, I like being a runner and looking fitter. I miss that, from when I was at 152. I want it back. I was proud of myself. :)

    I'm feeling very sympathetic right now. My wonky hip is bugging me today. I can usually power through it, but today I find myself sitting down to get away from the pain.

    Your plan to lose weight to manage the arthritis is good. It can't hurt and it can only help.

    Sorry to hear about your back. But glad to hear you so determined about getting back on track. I know you can do it - one step at a time, one meal at a time, one workout at at time. You did it once and you can do it again. We will get there, and when we do, we will know better how to maintain it.

    I promise you the challenge will do you good! Sorry about the diagnosis. Can you go to the PT for a consult and maybe get some exercises you can do at home or at the gym to help? Also, the Mayo Clinic web site often has good exercises with pics for various arthritic pains. Just take care. Don't do anything that can cause permanent damage! Welcome to the Firecrackers!!

    Sorry to hear about the back issue. Are they any recommended targeted exercises that are geared to help that kind of thing? In the meantime, congrats on your recent weight loss and for keeping your eating in check over the last several days - that's awesome! You'll get back to where you want to be, I just know it!

    First of all, congratulations on the loss!!!
    I understand about wanting to know the why of your back pain but I keep putting that part off too. I am glad so many things are feeling better for you as you get stronger. Take care.

    Im so sorry about your back and neck pain. Diet and exercise can do so much to relieve the pain and inflammation. So, you're taking a great leap forward! And just think about your journey to your goal... as you get closer, every step will be lighter until you feel as if you can fly!

    Sigh so so sorry about your back from one back sufferer to another. I am going to massage and chiro and they are a temp fix but get sometimes up to 5 hrs pain free, other times worse pain. But I have no co pay so worth it to go.
    They also direct bill so no money out of my pocket excpet chiro I do have to pay and get reimbursed.
    Have decided to go to a natuopath, no they can't fix the bones and herniation, degeneration but a lot is inflammation so foods can help wtih that and besides I am at a loss with my food. My Kee that is waiting for replacement is so swollen and inflammed.

    HOpe you have a better day and yes staying active helps. I am doing better at that and still doing my stretches.
