So far so good

Well I decided to give up meat for Lent and so far it hasn't been that bad. I have been trying to find new ways to get my protein in without eating eggs and cheese everyday or several times a day so it has been interesting. I am allowing myself fish so I do have flexibility there. I've always been a fan of the Morningstar products but I've taken a second look at them and discovered some products I normally wouldn't have considered such as their crumble, breakfast sausage and Mediterranean chickpea patty. I normally might buy their black bean burger. My friend said their chicken-like products are good too so I will have to try them.

While I thought it would be a great sacrifice to give up for Lent, I also thought it would be a good way to do something different in the weight loss journey. When you have reset the clock as many times as I have on the various programs, you do need to think outside the box and try different ways of doing things to keep things fresh. I've never vowed to go without meat so it does challenge my way of life.

I was out running errands last week and on a tight schedule. Normally I might have stopped at a fast food place and grabbed a burger but that wasn't an option. I was already heading to the grocery store so I grabbed some crab meat and snacked on that in the car. I never would have done that in a million years but it was very fitting, as well as satisfying, during my long car ride.

So after one week of not having meat I am down 4 pounds. I'm sure if that is also due to eating more freggies but I'm sure meat has it's place in the weight loss claim to fame. I'll keep you posted as I continue through these forty days of Lent.

Okay NO meat, wow you're awesome!!! I'm glad I read your blog I forgot about the morning star products and even Burger King sells the veggie burger. Great job on the 4#s down and I wish you many blessings on the 40 days.

Wow! I will be interested in seeing how this goes. I am not much of a red meat eater but do like turkey and chicken.

Great job with Week 1 and the weight loss!!

As a vegetarian for over 20 years, some of my favourite sources of protein are seitan (wheat "meat" that can be cooked in a variety of ways and substituted for most meats in recipes), quorn products (their naked "chick'n" cutlets are great, and really easy to sub for any dish that calls for chicken) edamame, beans of all kinds, dishes made with quinoa, broccoli (which has a surprising amount of protein per serving). I also eat eggs and cheese (gruyere, parmesan and goat cheese all have quite a bit of protein).

Best of luck on your journey!
