What keeps me awake at night...

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

I worry for:
the ominous future of this world for my children and all people
our troops who are overseas for no good reason
the push to war with Iran
politics run for the benefit of corrupt/greedy big business
the future of the world food supply increasingly being brought under the control of Monsanto via patents on seeds
our food supply poisoned by GMOs and unsafe additives
continuing loss of privacy and personal freedoms
the erosion of our constitution and the bill of rights
the motives of the "Federal" Reserve which is really a group of private bankers
Republican votes against women's interests-most recently voting not to renew the violence against women act
Republican votes against Chuch Hagel for Sec. of Defense. See my blog for more on that.

Sorry for the rant, but these issues tend to keep me awake at night.

A card with the following quote is on my desk.

"This is your guardian angel saying that even if things seem a little bit crazy where you are right now, from up here you look pretty good. That tangled mess that's got you worried? It's just a dark cloud and there's a rainbow on the other side."

I try to keep the hope of that rainbow in mind and take action by:
~supporting candidates who are pro women's issues like Elizabeth Warren
~writing my Senators and Representatives on specific issues
~being involved in and similar groups on line
~supporting the work of the Friends Committee on National Legislation
~having the FCNL bumper sticker on my car which says "War is not the answer"
~sharing information about the dangers of GMOs in our food crops-see my blog about Monsanto
~supporting third world children directly through Children International
~involvement in the local food bank and church charities

Please join me and do what ever you can do to make this world a better place for all God's children. You can make a difference! Your vote counts! One thing that everyone can do is smile. There is hope and there are always rainbows.

You are so right! There is much to be concerned about in this crazy world of ours. I try hard not to let these things keep me awake at night. I try to balance them by doing more than my fair share to make up for others who do nothing. But I also have to realize that I still have limits on what I can do.

I find myself staying away from newspapers and TV news because I find it depressing. If they would give equal time to the GOOD things happening in the world, they would get more of my interest.

I tried, but got totally inundated with e-mail and requests to the point where I had to stop.

In the end, I don't know that I quite believe something that a friend of mine says - she says everybody is trying to do the best they can do. Do you think? I'm not sure. I somehow always feel that I could do more, yet I know I do quite a bit.

I sleep pretty well most of the time, but I worry about all the same things you do. Sometimes I think it's a curse to be too well-informed...Hopefully our actions will bear fruit.
