I'm the non-hefty trashbag: wimpy, wimpy, wimpy!

Monday, February 18, 2013

I admire those of you who maintain your outdoor activities year-round. I thought I would try it this winter, but find it is just so much more enjoyable for me to head to the bicycle trainer and the treadmill when the temperature goes below 50 degrees. Call me a wimp, but I get my money's worth for the annual Y membership from late November through April.

That is not to say that I do not enjoy being outside during the winter! In fact, I love the great outdoors all year. I just find that I am more comfortable when dressed to resemble the Michelin Man, than when I'm dressed for exercise - even properly so.

One of our state's old tourism mottoes was: "From Murphy to Manteo!" (Murphy is our westernmost city, Manteo our easternmost.) I love the extremes of our state - extremes in geography as well as temperatures. A couple of weeks ago, I visited one of our beaches. Took some long walks on the beach, but chose to exercise indoors.

This past weekend, I went to the mountains. Thank goodness our friends have a stationary bicycle in their home, because the windchill was -5! I didn't leave the house on Saturday. (The bulging trashbag bursts!) I enjoyed watching the snow and listening to the wind howl while sitting in front of the fire. On Sunday, I had to go out (they refused to build an insulated tunnel for me to walk through to get from the door to the car - and I call them friends...). We traditionally do a group picture depicting the number of years we've done the Valentines' weekend (26 this year). I had on silk longjohns, a sweater, a hoodie, a down vest, and a ski jacket. Can you pick me out? I know I was the only warm one in the group! Vanity has its pitfalls in my book!

The snow WAS beautiful! I just chose to enjoy it from the other side of the window.

Have a great day! (I'm heading for the Y.)

emoticon Nothing wrong with dressing like the Michelin Man!! Sometimes I do get out and walk when Most Sane People are inside with You by the Fire, LOL!! But that is only if all conditions are "Right"! Otherwise it is the Treadmill and Leslie Sansone for this Wimpy Girl!!

Winter sucks. I hate it. I hate going outside. My dog is the only thing keeping me from staying bundled up inside. She has to walk. It's just "killing" her today because she couldn't go outside because of the freezing rain.
    Take care.

Beautiful pictures and looks like a fun weekend. I would have enjoyed the snow through the window also. Spring will be here soon so those of us that hate cold can get back to our outdoor activities.

    Think spring!!!!!

I strongly dislike indoor cycling. Luckily, I can cycle outside year round. Hang tough!!

I am surprised there was no glove on the hand you are waving and yes, I can pick you out of the group because you're standing next to the tallest fella there. Nice group and love all the photos! emoticon

Weather extremes are why I like to walk with Leslie Sansone!

I truly agree ... I do all my fitness inside once it's cold/snowy/icy -- a lot of my hesitation comes from my knee surgery that left me with screws in my knee that make my knee hurt when it's cold/wet.
I run during spring summer outside and am more apt to go for a walk, too (though I try and go for short walks in winter too)
Keep up the good work, whatever works for you is good!!

You are not the only one as I hate dressing up to try and run. I too use a treadmill and as you say it is worth every penny.

Keep going the way you are and stay warm, I know I will
