thursday--valentines day!

Thursday, February 14, 2013

good morning everyone. well valentines started off less than idyllic. at 3 am shambles woke up and barfed. not sure why yet. i had a panic attack that she had swallowed a rock again (last time was a year ago Christmas eve and we had emergency surgery that very day) and spent the next 2 hrs. lying in bed shaking so hard that the whole bed was shaking. oh well--at least it probably burned off some calories. my whole body feels tired now. just watching her closely today--hopefully there was another simpler reason for the "outburst".
got up--rob staggered into his work clothes and i threw some cereal on the table with strawberries. we exchanged valentines, ate our breakfast and rob headed out. a little later on i will work out--fortunately today is elliptical day so i can even break my workout into 2 shorter segments if i need to.
had a lovely surprise yesterday--a car pulled in the drive--it was a customer that just found me last summer. he was passing by and decided to pull in to see if i was home so he could buy a mosaic birdhouse to surprise his wife for valentines. sweet guy! we had a nice visit and he made my day. then when rob got home we went to a nearby town to hunt for shoes. my running shoes have quite a few miles on them, and i was having some aches and pains that were new--the advice in my running book says the first thing you do for new pain is replace your shoes. i have such wide feet its always a challenge--and i think i tried on 20 pairs in 2 stores. at the second store i found skechers "go fit" shoes that i had really longed for over the summer in the clearance aisle! in a size 5!!!! the fit is quite forgiving and they were about a third off, so i decided to take the plunge. these are very different shoes from what i am used to. they are designed for a mid foot strike--which is what i strive for--mid foot striking lessens the chances for a lot of running injuries, according to my chi running dvd. kind of a minimalist shoe--very light weight . mid foot shoes feel quite odd to walk in because the main area of support is right in the center of your foot. the good thing is they almost force you to run with a mid foot strike, so they take the place of some of the concentration on technique. but they are designed specifically for running, and i don't wear my running shoes for anything else anyway. plus they are cute (an almost unheard of term in the world of shoes that normally fit my foot).
they had two pair and i nearly bought both, but decided to wait until i have run in these for a little while to be sure they do what i want them to. then if the store still has the other pair i will buy it. as a little splurge i bought a 3 pak of technical socks. these aren't the real deal--they still had some cotton in them, but they are a step up from my cotton dollar store socks--and i wanted to see how i liked technical socks. if they work i will really splurge and buy one or two pairs of the dry max socks.
rob looked for shoes too, but didn't find anything. in a strange turn the store actually had more womens wide sizes than mens.
guess that's all for now. time to get about my day--really what i need right now is a NAP!
have a good one, everybody!
