Up & Down

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

I feel like I'm on a Roller Coaster lately. Up & down, back & forth. I just can't stick with my eating plan for even an entire day. Have a lot on my mind right now & that is part of the problem. Still, I figure if I put this down in black & white maybe it will help me "see the light."

I've read -- but haven't personally tested -- that we make on average 200 decisions a day. No wonder we're exhausted. Not all of these decisions are food-related, thank God. Recent studies indicate that willpower has limits, and the more we force ourselves to "be good," the easier it is to succumb to the next temptation that comes along.

Still, by using the 80/20 plan, we can make 80% good decisions, and 20% less-than-optimum decisions and still make progress. Are you planning out your food for the day? Some of us find it helps to put our food plan in the tracker the night before, so we can see how different things affect our calorie intake. If you plan on eating toward the lower end of your calorie range, you'll still have a little wiggle room if those treats prove irresistible.

I'm sure there are people on here who are so strong, have so much willpower and grit, that they have perfect days. I'm NOT one of them. You don't have to be either. Sparking is not dieting. It's about making small changes in our lives that we can live with long-term, and that means accepting that we aren't perfect.
