Family Time

Sunday, February 10, 2013

I might as well tell you right now, I work for my sister driving school bus, and I work for my mother-in-law as administrative assistant at a fuel company. You would think this would be enough "family time", but it gets better. My mother lives beside me, and the sister I work for lives on the other side of her, so my "commute" to work takes about 3 minutes.

So, just when you are thinking that may be enough family time for now, my other sister likes to have the boys and me over for play-dates with my niece. My 2 boys and her little girl are all 15 months apart, and we want them to be as close as brothers and sister. So far, they act like they all come from the same parents pretty much. We are going on the Disney Cruise with them, and my mother is coming along as well.

Today, we spent the afternoon at my sister's place, skating on the bay. It was beautiful -- sunny, pleasant for skating, a little breezy, but nice. Nick (7 years old) hates (HATES) skating, so every now and then I would drag him around the ice on a toboggan. He is not light (85 lbs.), so it is quite a chore to get him around the ice a couple of times! We played tag on our skates, and some of the partners taught the younger kids new moves in hockey. We did have a lot of fun!

They are calling for freezing rain tomorrow morning, so the buses may cancel. If they do, I am not going to my other job -- I am staying home with my boys! Probably someone will guilt trip me into sending the boys to school anyway, but I had already booked the day off for WHMIS training for the bus company. That's the plan -- let's see how it goes!

Way too much "family" time for my taste. I love spending time with my hubby and son, but prefer it to be just the 3 of us. One or two short visits a year with the rest is just about right for us.
