Rough Week

Sunday, February 10, 2013

Well, I lost half a pound this week. I did not exercise like I wanted to. I had a rough week at school which made it difficult for me to exercise.

Tuesday, one of my students sprayed a body spray in my classroom, even though she knows I'm allergic to it. I had an asthma attack that lasted over 2 hours. At one point, I thought I was going to pass out because I couldn't breathe. Then, the next day, at lunch, one of the girls came down doused in some type of spray and I had another bad asthma attack. Then, on Thursday, right before class started that morning, 3 of my students decided to spray on perfume just before they came to class, setting off my asthma again. Thursday afternoon, I went to group when the girls had group at 2:00 and we talked about exactly what sets off my asthma in hopes that they will stop triggering asthma attacks.

Because of the asthma attacks, I did not work out this week. To make a bad week even worse, my desk top computer died on Thursday. My husband is getting a power supply for it today and the battery in my car died on Friday. I spent my lunch hour Friday buying and replacing the battery.

Then, when I returned to work on Friday, I went to the unit to bring my students down to the classroom, and the boys left their unit slightly ahead of us. When they were trying to take 2 boys to class and leave the other 2 on the unit, the 2 that were supposed to be on the unit pushed through the staff in the doorway and ran out into the hall. The staff restrained one of the kids twice. Meanwhile, I was stuck in the girl's unit waiting on the hall to clear so that the girls could come to class. Instead of coming to class at 1:00, as scheduled, we went to the classroom about 1:40. Then, the girls decided they needed to use the restroom and were scattered throughout the halls for a little while. So, instead of letting them get on the computers, as planned, I dragged out a health lesson for an hour. But, I was able to do it in such a way that I didn't really lose the girls' attention.

Then, Saturday, we bought a new car. Well, it's new to us. It's a 1996 Chevy Caprice. It has been garage kept and taken to a dealer every 6 months. We got a really good deal on the car, which is nice because our only car is slowly dying.

Today, I haven't really followed my diet all that well. I started the day off with a bologna sandwich, now I'm having pizza and a small bowl of ice cream. I am going to try to work out today, but I brought a lot of grading home with me and have some work to do for my doctorate degree.

It takes a lot (more than a lot) of courage to persevere when life doesn't play fair with you. I am so glad to here that you have a plan to keep going. One bad week does not, can not, undo your complete confidence to know that your home life, your educational life, life itself is power, strength and the reason to keep on going.

The omission of work life is deliberate. Hold on to the value-added ideals that would be the first to be under attack -- work is work, and it is the one component in the mix you described over which you have the least control -- whether as an employee or as an entrepreneur. The quality and courage that you are showing by being "real" about your situation(s) is what counts -- and what will bring you closer and closer to your most important goals.

And I am so glad that you have the strength to keep on, keeping on!
