Yesterday at Hopkins

Friday, February 08, 2013

I went to Johns Hopkins yesterday. I snagged a Groupon for an evaluation at their Weight Management Center. I wanted to see what they had to say...I was going to be meeting with a psychologist, dietician, weight loss doctor, and exercise physiologist.

It all seemed to go ok, until the doctor overseeing my potential program pitched me his solution. He suggested that I go on a 1000 calorie per day diet in which I eat only their supplemented protein items instead of real food. Really, dude? I burn almost 1000 calories at the gym everyday. How would I function like that? How does eating your processed protein crap teach me anything about how to control a binge in the real world? How does this teach me to properly fuel my body? Not to mention their little "supplimented meals" were incredibly expensive. Like 400 per month. Not to mention my weekly visit with the center and support group runs 80/week.

All in all, I'm realizing that Spark is the best. It makes sense. It fits my budget. It allows me to live my life in the REAL world....where sometimes you mess up. It ain't always easy, but losing weight and getting healthy is always worth it.

Wow! That is crazy expensive! I agree with you though, that's not the way to learn portion control!

Frankly, the others didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know. Spark is the best.

Really, wow and you get the support here for free. Plus what happens to people on powered drinks only and then try to go back to normal eating.
On the plus side I like Groupon.

Isn't it crazy that it seems everyone is out to make a buck on the fat people? How many commercials promise instant and amazing results with no effort and how many people are spending their hard earned cash for no results? Spark is fantastic and it teaches us to take control of out lives and to make the changes that we need to make for a lifelong change - not just the quick 5 pound loss and then the 15 pound gain. Sorry the experience wasn't better but hope you got some good info from the others before the sales pitch?
