Nearly doubled my weekly walking goal!!

Thursday, February 07, 2013

My weekly walking goal is 20 miles based on Spark's suggestion. I decided to try it...that's over 1,000 miles in a calendar year!! WOW!! I focused more on the 1,000 goal than the 20/week goal because I needed room for error AND it was a huge goal that was attainable. Yea, I wanted to hit the goal in a year, but even if it took 13 months, a thousand miles is a thousand miles so in my head I committed to 1,000 miles and "let's see how quickly I can reach it".

Weeks 1 and 2 were a struggle as you'll see from the list and chart. Week 3, I came very close, but was a little shy. Still, that motivated me to try a bit harder. Then I bought the Fitbit. The following week, I nearly doubled my goal (some of it was hidden walking between buildings but most of it was walking 2 miles at lunch and 5 after work).

Now I still have a goal of 1,000 miles as quickly as I can, but I'm excited to see by how many miles I will exceed that goal. I have told myself I'll be happy no matter when I surpass this, but I'm really striving to hit this by September and then 1/4 of the year will all be bonus. 1,500 miles would be awesome. What ever the number is on Dec 31, 2013, my goal in 2014 will be to exceed this year's accomplishment. emoticon

Week 1: 12.1 miles
Week 2: 4.75 miles
Week 3: 18.67 miles
Week 4: 36.74 miles
Week 5: 21.32 miles (and counting)

P.S. I find myself on a euphoric high for having exercise goals that I'm excited about. I've NEVER been excited about exercise.......EVER. It makes me feel so powerful. This is totally within my control. THANK YOU SP for helping me achieve this feeling.
