Expect and Accept The Unexpected

Tuesday, February 05, 2013

As I have confessed before, I am a perfectionist. You would not know that from looking at my home on some days. But surprisingly, perfectionists become so overwhelmed by trying to do everything “just right,” that unless they can make that happen, they won’t bother starting.

So , in walked It’s a miracle! I can stop this perfectionist attitude and be even more organized.

If you are a FlyBaby, you know the drill:
* Morning Routine:
• -Get Dressed to Shoes including Hair/Face, Brush Teeth
• - Make Bed
• -Swish & Swipe
• -Empty Dishwasher
• -Reboot Laundry (a Load a Day Keeps CHAOS Away)
• -Check Your Calendar
• -Check Your Control Journal
* Before Bed Routine:
• -Lay out Your Clothes for tomorrow
• -Check Your Calendar
• -Put things needed for tomorrow at the Launch Pad
• -Where are your Keys?
• -Spend Two Minutes Clearing off a Hot Spot
• -Shine Your Sink
• - Wash face/Brush Teeth
• -Go to Bed at a Decent Hour
Armed with my Cozi Calender, my Home Budget and FlyLady it seemed that everything was going PERFECTLY! It’s true! It really works!

Except, when the unexpected occurs and your brain does a total 180.

Part of my morning routine includes checking the bank account balance and matching it to my Home Budget. Check!

I go to pay a bill today and find out it is more than originally stated. I am in a state of panic. My brain does a free-fall and I’m thinking …. I totally have to change my budget, I have to rebalance everything, I have to print out the new budget.

It’s an hour later and I have completed all of that. I sit here and wonder what the fuss was all about. We’re not overdrawn. My house is warm, I have food, the car has gas, the phone is on, we have jobs, I’m healthy. Why?

Because I forgot “The Secret.” The Attitude of Gratitude. To accept less than perfect, and not consider it a failure. . It’s not like I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.

So, with firm resolve I will try to Accept the Unexpected and move along. (repeat 10 times daily)
