Silver Class

Monday, February 04, 2013

On Saturday I had the pleasure of taking a silver class at the JOGS Show and Jeff Faulkner was the teacher. The man has talents that blow me away and he was so good at teaching, that I came out of that 8 hour class fired up! Not all of the students showed up, which was HEAVEN!! Since there was only 3 of us, we got one on one instruction AND instead of only being able to make the ring, we all made a pendant as well. The other 2 students were wonderful and I had the best time. I wish that I could afford more than one class, but am so greateful that I could attend this one.

The day before class I spent the whole day at the JOGS show...there are Gem Shows all over Tucson right now and it is as close as I will ever get to utopia. I shopped for cabs, beads, silver and findings. All year I save up the moneys made at the events to buy 80% of what I need for the business. This year I did not spend all of my "Gem Show Money", and I'm glad I didn't , I want to buy the whole set up for jewelry torches. Previously I was trying to use the butaine torches but the problems I was having was not from lack of skill (although that contributed), but did not get hot enought for what I was attempting to do. So, I am doing my research now and will be purchasing the set up this week.

By the way, as for working on the metal clay, I have not given up on that, but my BRAND NEW kiln did not work properly. So, after talking with the company, they mailed me a new switch and I hope that it takes care of the problem. Thank goodness my husband can install it for me...I will post pictures soon.
