Trying to Excuse Proof the gym

Monday, February 04, 2013

I finally went to the gym yesterday for the first time in months. I've been working out at home, sometimes. But honestly, at home there are so many excuses not to work out. I hemmed and hawed about it. I finally went, and worked out for an hour, but they gym is still not my favorite place. However, I pay for it, and until it gets warmer out, it's the best way for me to get exercise in consistently.

I know that if I got home before I go to the gym I simply won't go so I packed a gym bag this morning. I have to swing by my apartment to pick up a package but I'm only going to go to the leasing office. Not my actual apartment.

I also decided on a short term reward (I have long term ones all figured out, but I need some sort of shorter term motivator to get me in the groove). I decided that if I go to the gym 6/7 days this week I can stop at Total Wine after the gym on Saturday and pick up a bottle of wine that is just for me. I tend to save my wine to share and I drink the inexpensive bottles when I'm alone. However, I'm really getting more and more into wine so I think a nice bottle just for me would be a good thing!

Here's hoping that tomorrow I'm writing about how I actually went to the gym this afternoon.

I have to pre-pack my gym bag and take it with me to work. Once I get home, I don't want to leave again. In my head I schedule gym time like I would a meeting or other appointment. I have to mentally make it a priority, not something I can do now or do later. (Because it's so hard to do later so I schedule everything else around it). Even though I know that if something comes up I CAN do it at home. I just try to not have to adjust my schedule unless I have to, then mentally commit to doing it at home no matter what.
Hope you have a good workout!
