30-day Challenge: DAY ONE

Friday, February 01, 2013

Today was the start of both my Paleo and Crossfit challenges. Needless to say I am exhausted! Now, I did not eat appropriately today according to my Crossfit trainer, Joe, because I only ate twice between 6 AM and 4 PM...my excuse was that I was that I went back to bed from 7AM - 12PM, for some reason he said that didn't count. Also, I was feeling under the weather yesterday so I did not make it to the grocery store for my pre-Paleo stock up, so I had to default to two protein shakes for breakfast and lunch.

Breakfast/Lunch Smoothie

2 cup acai super antioxidant smoothie mix
1 cup grapefruit juice (no sugar added)
1.5 scoops Perfect Fit Protein
1 tbsp Flaxseed, ground

The trainer at Crossfit asked me to be there at 4:30 PM for my "intro workout", so I was there at 4:15 PM of course. I had no idea what to expect and started thinking it would just be a quick tour of the gym and maybe little talk about the proper regime for Crossfit. BOY WAS I WRONG!?!?
He had me run 400 meters, do push ups, pull-ups, air squats, dips, and some hamstrings/glute/crunch thing. Then he said, "Okay, now that's the warmup." I almost fainted.

Then he showed me the proper protocol for burpees and wall balls..."Okay, now you are going to do as many rounds of 7 burpees and 7 wall balls in 7 minutes." I was thinking "Wow, seriously? After the warmup this will be easy!"

HAHAHAHA (again) I was WRONG!

I completed nearly 4 minutes before I was on the brink of covering the gym floor with my delicious going down protein smoothie. Joe told me that I did a great job for my first time, which made me feel good but I still wish I'd completed the final three minutes. What I loved most... the trainer saw that I was reluctant to give up and he told me "You know you have nothing to prove to me. This is for you, and most girls your age who claim to be in better shape give up after two minutes."

My first day of Paleo and Crossfit may have been challenging but I am confident that in four weeks I will look back and be AMAZING at the results and glad that I stuck with it. After all, as Joe said "This is for you!"

This is my time to take control... again. Yet, each new day is a new turn. If I have a bad day, then who am I cheating? No one but myself. I can make a fresh start with each day, each workout, and each decision.

Have you ever had to start over with anything? What happened when you stumbled, or what did you do to keep yourself from stumbling?
