No, not weight loss success, unfortunately. But significant success nonetheless. Success in making 'someday' really happen. I mentioned in my last blog that I had promised myself over and over that I would NOT let the lawn turn into a nightmare of tall weeds over the winter, that I would mow at least once during the winter months and prevent disaster.

Well, I have lived in this house for over fourteen years, and I have never once kept that promise to myself - until now. I think that's a pretty big success.

I have a very, very large back yard. Mowing it is a multi-day process no matter what I do. I spent over two hours on Monday, over four hours on Tuesday, and over two hours today (Wednesday) and I finally did it!

I had to bag everything, partly because I hadn't raked leaves in the fall (yes, I am definitely yardwork-challenged), so I needed to get them off the grass, and partly because there were already weeds going to seed, and bagging the clippings really lowers the re-seeding of those weeds. I ended up with a total of twenty-three bags of clippings and leaves. Twenty-three!!! Yikes! My older son tells me I am way too much of a fanatic.

Well, to a degree he is right. I am somewhat of a perfectionist, which can be a problem in that, if I don't have time to do a perfect job, I generally don't even start a rather than an imperfect job, I have NO job done.

In any event, I did get a good bit of exercise out of the whole affair - I really exhausted myself yesterday. And the lawn looks so nice, and makes me feel so happy, and really, so good about myself. Which makes no logical sense, but it is nonetheless the case.

I do have some pictures. The only 'before' pictures are of one section of the lawn, which was pretty well covered with dead leaves. That portion I actually did rake, because the pile of leaves was just too high to effectively mow it. I had help from my younger son on the raking.

These are 'before' pictures of the left side of the backyard (facing the back of the house).

Here are some 'after' pictures:

The above pic is of the same section of the lawn.

This one shows seventeen of the twenty-three bags. Three others are in the trash receptacle shown, and three were picked up in today's trash collection. Three are all that will fit in the receptacle, so it will be quite a few weeks before all the bags are gone.

This one is another 'after' shot of the left side of the back yard, but taken from farther back, so it gives an idea of how huge the back yard really is.

This shows more of the center view of the back yard, again taken from near the back fence, to show the total size better.

These last two are of the right side of the back yard, again facing the back of the house.

It was a lot of work...the pictures are really for me to have a record of what I finally managed to do. So much of the time I don't really feel that I am accomplishing much of anything. When I actually do finish something I dwell on it to build up my own ego, if for no other reason.

I also got some discouraging health news today, so I needed an emotional pick-me-up. This did the job quite well.
