A Turning Point?

So this morning, I read the Daily Spark story about Joyce (GATORJOY) and something clicked inside my head..so much so that I posted on facebook that "today is the day." Of course, that kind of status begs the question, for what? And when I was asked, this is what I wrote:

This morning read a story about a 60 year old woman who lost 60 lbs in 9 months. I have been whining for years about how much harder it is to lose weight as I have gotten older, and instead of trying harder, I just seem to keep giving up. I'm done with that. I am going to take the massive amount of knowledge I have on the subject and use it when I need it, but in the meantime, I'm just going to eat well and exercise when I can. It really, truly, IS that simple. I've been stressing out so much about not having time, about being sick of my exercise bike and thinking "oh, I need to find something else," about joining a gym or buying a fit bit, or an Ipod nano to measure my steps and workouts and put some music to my workouts, about so many things, and all the stress and worry and *itching and complaining have put me in a state of complete inaction and then feeling so helpless I just completely ignore the eating part. Enough. I'm not getting younger, my body is tired of being overweight. So today is the day.

Nuff said, the time for action is now..and thank you, Joyce, for giving 53 year old me the hope that I can do this with common sense adjustments that aren't so extreme that I just would not be able to achieve them.

    emoticon Wow, that's almost... 6 lbs a month... leaving 6 more lbs to divide up between those 9 months... so totally doable!! I hear you, T. Most of the time the details get sooo complex that the simplicity of just being active- whether it's mopping a floor or vacuuming, that if ___ isn't *there* or if ___ needs to be 'done' b4 ___ can... then the whole DESIRE is like a flame gone out from a bucket of water. Least ways, that's how it is for me, so don't worry about getting something ***new*** to play with or think what you have will not work because... i.e. you don't have the
    emoticon tunes emoticon but instead... I'M WITH YOU ON THIS, T, let's just DO IT!!

    Remember, how as kids, we'd walk, skip, jump, hula-hoop, run, swing, swim, bike, roller skate, climb... with intermissions of little snacks/drinks through out the whole day? We didn't even THINK about how to 'do' it, we just ***played*** with our imaginations and I think that THAT is what's missing. It's that mindset of *F*U*N* that we had that was sooo s.i.m.p.l.e. it's been lost in the shuffle of WHO makes our *fun* up for us. It's the mass marketing strategies of major greed that sends every adult the subliminal peer group pressure mental brainwashing messages that... if you don't have ___ and ___ and buy $$$ and $$$ then you're not going to be in the in crowd, doing what all the COOL people do and you're NOT gonna reach your goals. Take it from somebody who knows a little bit about the marketing and advertising that goes into all the psychology of GOTTA HAVES. Thanks for reminding me too, T.

    My plans were (on my list today) to set my one little *special* something to physically 'do' for each day. I worked something similar out for my chores b4 the New Year and it's working out gr8, so I thought I'd try it out on the physical level (in addition to my working an *extra*special*chore* in each day, besides the every day stuff) so I'll write up something like the days of the week and WHAT I physically 'do' that is *F*U*N* for that day.

    You can do this Tina, one step at a time, one day at a time. Only thing holding you back is yourself.

    You can do it Tina!! Just keep motivated everyday and focused on your goal...

    Here I am 42 with a 9 month old. I am on a mission to do exactly what you are planning. Just remember to keep it fun :)

    It definitely sounds like you need to mix it up. Variety definitely makes things better. How about setting a physical goal like training for a 5K. Maybe you could try a new class like zumba (it is really goofy, but really fun).

    This is a complex process, and it's different for every body... I think that is what makes it so hard at times. No one else can figure it out for us. And it is harder with each passing year (though I think the hormonal unpredictability of the 40's likely makes it the hardest decade), but not impossible. The one thing we can never do is allow the process to beat us up. It really is all about mindset and persistence.

    P.S. As for that contractor, as my husband so blithely pointed out, "honey, I think he has issues with women." My choices were leave the room, sit there and cry out of rage and frustration, or literally kill him. I decided to be a grown-up... and I'm currently enjoying a contractor-free week... he's back on Monday. As in everything, and for everyone I love and theri concerns (YOU), I keep praying!
